Elgton Jenkins has been calm, unassuming, and humble since his childhood. Imagine a 6-year-old kid grinding out every day so he can chase the dream of becoming a pro football player. He has come a long way since his mother, Delandra Jenkins, would watch her six-year-old son selflessly put himself on the line to protect his quarterback.
But it’s not just his mother who’s taken a keen interest in his football career. Watching him transition from a little O-Lineman to graduating from Mississippi State and going into the NFL was perhaps the “proudest” and most photographic memory for his father, Elgton Jenkins Sr. too. Let’s look into the lineman’s life through his parents Delandra Jenkins and Elgton Jenkins Sr. eyes.

Not a lot is known about his parents’ personal life. However, Jenkins getting drafted into the big leagues was a heck of a story, and his parents sure are part of it. When Jenkins got drafted by the Packers, his mother’s phone just couldn’t stop ringing. At that point, Jenkins was surrounded by everyone who shaped him and gave him a shot at this opportunity.
“I’ve gotten so many phone calls and Facebook was just lit up with Elgton,” Delandra told Packers Wire. “It’s been crazy, but I thank God for it, that we were able to be at home and be with family and friends and his old teachers, his old coaches were there when he got the call. It was exciting.”

However, things were a bit different for his father, who suddenly got reminded of his son’s graduation ceremony at Mississippi State. “I’m proud. I’m so happy for him,” said Jenkins’ father, Elgton Sr. “But at the same time, I want him to go there and be safe and do a good job too, like he did in college.”
Jenkins Sr. realized his son had “good drive and ambition” to see through his selection in the big league. Not only that, he saw his son do all the right things and take measures that will land him in the NFL.
While being an O-Lineman doesn’t really guarantee “safety,” Jenkins made sure to do a great job defending the fort. So much so that he found himself getting a Pro Bowl nod in 2020. He and his team allowed Aaron Rodgers to take a mere 18 sacks in that season. His mother couldn’t believe it, as she was “hollering on the phone” when she got the call bearing the good news.
But his fame and success didn’t stop there.

Playing O-Line comes with a lot of risk, and Elgton Jenkins had his fair share of it. Eight separate counts of knee injuries led him to have reconstructive knee surgery. However, going through all the pain and suffering had a silver lining and a light at the end of the tunnel. The Packers didn’t abandon him, instead; they bestowed him with a 4-year, $68 million contract extension.

The first thing he did was relay the good news to her mother. His mother was “excited” about the new achievement her son had unlocked after a long spell of a “dark time” her son went through. It has been a long, tough road for the Green Bay Packers guard and at this point, something his father said 5 years ago makes perfect sense.

“When he did get called up in college and high school, we had a chance to go do things with him that we probably didn’t know that he was going to go to the NFL, but he was doing things in that direction, to point him to the NFL. We kind of knew that he was going to try and grind it out and make it to the next level,” Elgton Jenkins Sr. expressed.
