For this amazing play, he earned AP All-Pro First Team honors—the only player in franchise history to achieve that. Who is Derek Stingley Jr.’s mom?
Isn’t it always a delight to see a mom proud of her son? Well, Natasha Stingley, Derek Stingley Jr.’s momma, is clearly one of them. Though we don’t know much about her personal life, as she likes to keep it lowkey. But she is not lowkey when it comes to posting stuff all over her social media about her son and family. Yes, Momma Stingley is the number one fan of her son. She can often be seen on the sidelines, cheering for him. When he became the first cornerback in franchise history to earn AP All-Pro First Team honors, his mom said some motivating words in an Instagram post. “We’re extremely proud of you, son! No wonder why Derek is so amazing on the field—he’s getting all the love and energy from his mother. She’s always been this persona with a vibrant aura. Why? She posted on her IG reminiscing about her time as a dancer back in the ‘90s. Yes, yes, Natasha used to be a dancer. The caption read, “I graduated high school, class of ‘92, in Lake Charles, La. I entered SU in BR in ‘92. I attended SU for four years & danced for four years.” Derek is surely lucky to have such an upsy-daisy mother.
Who is Derek Stingley Jr.’s Dad?
What’s that Kendrick song? “I got hustle, though, ambition flow inside my DNA.” Yeah, there’s no doubt that football has always been in Derek Stingley Jr.’s DNA. He had the right foundation for his castle of dreams to be fully constructed. His father, Derek Stingley Sr., is literally the reason Derek is good at football today. He passed down the knowledge he earned over the years to his son.
Back in the day, Stingley Sr. initially played both football and baseball at Purdue University. However, he later transitioned to professional sports, starting with baseball after being drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1993. I know, right? Pretty impressive. But eventually, he shifted back to football, playing in the Arena Football League. When his playing days were done, he made a name for himself as a coach, earning Coach of the Year honors in 2008.
Where did Derek Stingley Jr. grow up?
Derek Stingley Jr. is a Louisiana kid who got his first football when he was just a toddler. His dad knew what he wanted his son to do. He used to mimic the players when he watched his dad playing in the AFL. By the time Derek was 4 or 5, his dad started teaching him routes, putting a route tree on his bedroom wall. His dad really put his all into building him to be the player we see today.
Such willpower in a father must have its source too, right? Derek Stingley Jr.’s grandfather, Darryl Stingley, was a former New England Patriots wide receiver. I told you it’s in his blood. But his career met a dead end after a paralyzing hit in 1978. Despite spending the rest of his days as a paraplegic, Darryl’s resilience and involvement with the Patriots continued, inspiring his family. His father made sure that the legacy of Derek’s grandfather lives on in the family.
LSU coach Ed Orgeron had high praise for Derek Jr., saying, “I’ve never had a player ready to play like Derek Stingley Jr., and I think his father had a lot to do with it. In fact, I know he did. I have a lot of respect for his father. He’s an excellent coach, an excellent dad.”
