For Chad Humphrey, it’s his father, a renowned Native American wrestler, and Melisa Humphrey, his mother, who have been instrumental in Creed’s life and career.

Chad, a wrestling champion, instilled in Creed the discipline and strength that has translated to his athletic pursuits. Melisa, a constant source of encouragement, has provided unwavering support and guidance. Together, they have fostered an environment that has allowed Creed to thrive.

Everything about Creed Humphrey’s Parents

Melisa and Chad Humphrey welcomed Creed into the world on June 28, 1999, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, USA. Chad, his father, is well-known in the wrestling world as a three-time All-American wrestler. During their childhood, Creed and his elder brother Gage Humphrey were trained by their father and were first exposed to the world of professional wrestling. A major factor in fostering Creed’s love of sports was their mother Melisa Humphrey’s encouragement.

Creed rose to prominence in the high school ranks, which helped him play consistently on the football field at Oklahoma. As a freshman, he produced remarkable bench press numbers. Additionally, the leverage he created against opponents on the mat helped rushers establish lanes and win angle pursuits at the line of scrimmage.

During his appearance on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, the Oklahoma native Humphrey talked about his history in wrestling. “With my dad’s wrestling background, he had me and my older brother in the wrestling room as soon as we could walk. So, that was a big part of my childhood. Did it for a long time growing up and did it in high school too. Really, it’s just about understanding leverage and I think that is a big part of the wrestling sport. It kind of shows a lot in my game, understanding leverage and being able to move people and use their weight against them in a way to create lanes on the field.”

That leverage was most definitely profitable. During his two seasons at OU (2019–20), Humphrey proved to be an exceptional player in the trenches, permitting no sacks. He was a member of the offensive line that won the Joe Moore Award in 2018 and one of the three candidates for the Rimington Trophy 2019. Throughout the course of three years, the left-handed center proved beneficial for three different starting quarterbacks: Kyler Murray, Jalen Hurts, and Spencer Rattler in terms of run blocking and pass protection.

Humphrey has exceptional blocking range on the field, but he also emits strength off the field akin to that of his mother. After witnessing his grandmother fight breast cancer, his mom was also diagnosed with the disease a year ago. Both of them are now cancer-free and serve as daily inspiration for Humphrey’s warrior persona. His mother, who has never missed a game, is the source of his viewpoint and combat mindset.

“Growing up though my childhood, my grandma, she had breast cancer twice throughout my childhood. My mom was the one that was always taking care of her. She ended up being a two-time cancer surviver. This past summer, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer also. They were able to find it early and she was able to get a double mastectomy. She’s cancer-free now. Just the toughness she has to be able to battle through that and still make every game this season; it’s a big inspiration to me. She’s such a tough person. I definitely believe I get my toughness from her.”
