Did Christian Watson inherit his NFL talent from his dad, or is it all his own hard work?

Wide receiver Christian Watson has formed a powerful combination with quarterback Jordan Love at Green Bay Packers. The Pack drafted him in the 2022 NFL Draft as their second-round (34th overall) pick. In his first season, he had 41 receptions for 611 yards with 7 touchdowns in 14 games. The following year, he made 28 receptions for 422 yards with 5 touchdowns in 9 games. However, this rise to the top wasn’t sudden. He came from an NFL family. So, his genes have athletic abilities.

Christian Watson was born to Tim Watson and Christa Lynn on May 12, 1999. Tim played as a safety and was drafted by the Packers in 1993. However, he didn’t get the chance to play after getting injured. He landed at Kansas City Chiefs in the same year and stayed there till 1995. In 1993, Chiefs legend Derrick Thomas introduced the NFL athlete to Christa, then 19-year-old, who worked as a bartender and server when she didn’t attend school. They became friends and fell in love later.

In 1996, when Tim left the NFL to play for the Barcelona Dragons, Christa was pregnant with their first child, Tre, who became a professional footballer. The safety never made big money in his career, hence the financial problems persisted for them. However, with love and determination, both collected enough money to build a house in Phoenix. According to Christa, Tim didn’t have enough chances in the NFL, and his football career ended before he reached his peak. That affected Tim’s psyche, but she didn’t want her children to go through this.

You can’t take football out of the WR’s mind who grew up listening to NFL stories from his parents. When he got drafted into the NFL, he gave a sneak peek at his journey, saying, “We lived with the football in our hands. Shoot, me and my dad and my brothers — even my mom and my sister — we lived to play football. We lived to do the football thing. We were always in the backyard.” Like father, like son. The young wide receiver is now battling the greats in the biggest football league.

Tim didn’t give up when his football career was over. He became a football coach and also worked in finance. He understood the training regimens and made his youngest son work hard.

Christian Watson’s training under his father’s guidance

What’s your perspective on:

Did Christian Watson inherit his NFL talent from his dad, or is it all his own hard work?

Have an interesting take?

Tim taught him the technical aspects of the game, particularly ball handling and blocking. He taught Christian leverage and protection arm. This developed him into one of the best in blocking defense. The strength & technique impressed the coach Matt LaFleur at the Packers. But that’s not the only plus point of the WR. His physique is exemplary.

The NFL scouts were amazed at his athletic prowess. During the scouting combine before the 2022 NFL Draft, he measured 6-foot-4 1/8 inch tall with a 38.5-inch vertical leap, 11-foot 4-inch broad jump, and did a 40-yard dash in 4.36 seconds. Christian’s relative athletic score was 9.96. Since 1987, only 10 wide receivers have a better score. While we can say he got it from his father, he got his cheeky smile from his mother.

With such a powerful base, the WR has climbed the ladders of success with grit and hard work. In 2019, Tim became Tazim Wajid Wajed. But their relationship is the same. Both value success. The work ethic given to him will help him become better in the future. Cheeseheads hope he brings the Super Bowl this year.
