Chris Godwin has been all over the news. He injured his ankle during the week 7 game against the Ravens. While the league is investigating the tackle that resulted in injury, the receiver must be thinking about all the times he got injured. Chris Godwin was 6-years old when his father, Rod Godwin Sr., knew that his son loved football. And he always encouraged him. At first, the young boy thought every father was like that. But as he grew up, he found out it was not the case. When he arrived at Penn State, his father didn’t come to the games regularly. But the support was always there.

Godwin Senior ran a commercial laundry business that worked for a V.A. hospital. Sometimes, the young receiver helped his dad to run the business. But the love for sports ran in the family. His father also played basketball as a shooter and was nicknamed Rod or Rifle.

One thing that remained with Chris Godwin was the freedom to play football on his terms. He often recalls that his father gave him a free hand to play the game as long as he liked it. It also motivated him to do big. The lifelong father-son bond broke on December 31, 2024, when Godwin Sr. passed away because of cancer. Feeling emotional after losing his rock, the WR posted an emotional message about their relationship.

Who is Chris Godwin’s mom, Lisa?

While Rod always fueled his ambitions to become a good receiver, his mother, Lisa Godwin, was more focused on his all-around development. She made sure that he had his meals on time and was safe. It stemmed from a childhood incident.

The family had moved from Philadelphia to Delaware. When Chris Godwin was only 8 years old, he once went to play with neighborhood children. One day, as the family sat down for dinner, he was nowhere to be seen. Angry with this, she asked Godwin Sr. to find him. After a lengthy search, they found him playing.

This made her realize that she would have to keep an eye on him. In an interview, she also revealed a game which the WR had lost and blamed himself for the loss. However, a dedicated mother, she encouraged him to overcome it. Not only him, she always stood by their other 3 children, an older half-brother, Marcus, older half-sister, Sharhonda, and a younger sister named Rina Godwin.

All in all, the family gave him the base, which propelled the Bucs WR to win the Super Bowl. That’s the power of love and belief. A living testament of their bond.
