Is everything ok between Baker Mayfield and his elder brother, Matt Mayfield? Ex-Panthers QB, who re-signed a three-year $100 million deal with the Bucs in 2024, is currently making waves for his family’s serious affairs. Allegedly, Buccaneers QB, Baker Mayfield sued his father James, and brother, Matt’s company, Camwood Capital Management Group for approximately  $12 million.

But, what exactly led him to take this action? Allegedly, the NFL QB, who has an estimated net worth of around $20 million, as of November 2024  accused his bro’s private equity firm as it failed to pay $11.7 million back to him. Is it truly a serious affair in Mayfield’s family? And, will it affect the bond between Mayfield and his bro, Matt?

Who is Matt Mayfield?

Baker, 29, and his older bro, Matt share a healthy bond.  Even, he has been his biggest source of inspiration throughout his career. Besides being a supportive sibling, Matt serves as the managing director of his family’s private equity company, Camwood Capital. And, he also has a notable stake in this company. Apparently, Mayfield’s father, James W. Mayfield founded the firm and works as the senior managing director for it.

Allegedly, Matt and Baker both grew up together in Austin, Texas. Just like his brother, he is also a sports enthusiast. A former walk-on baseball player at Texas A&M University, he is quite passionate about the sport. However, later he decided to quit the sport to manage his family business. Thus, it is clear, Matt might have instilled athletic passion and ethics in his brother.

Clearly, Baker’s brother had a great influence on his life. Seemingly, Matt prefers to stay away from the limelight. His locked Instagram account profile is an assurance of that. Earlier, he made waves for humorously wishing his younger brother. “Happy Birthday to someone who’s still in the running to be my favorite sibling and definitely favorite dog uncle,” he mentioned in his post caption.

However this post no longer exists, as he deactivated his IG account. But, such instances demonstrate the tight-knit brotherly bond between them. But, what happened to Baker as he has filed a lawsuit against Matt Mayfield?

Why has Baker Mayfield sued his brother Matt?

Allegedly, Baker Mayfield and his wife Emily, and their firm, Team BRM, LLC (TBRM) took the biggest action against a key member of the Camwood group, Matt. Seemingly, Baker claimed that his funds were misused from 2018 to 2021. Additionally, he also stated that his brother’s Camwood company transferred his money without his permission to pay general operational expenses.

On Friday, NFL QB filed a civil lawsuit against an Austin, Texas-based firm in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. As per the court document, the ex-Browns player claimed that his brother’s  Camwood firm failed to refund $11.7 million to him.

“For the period of time that Plaintiffs’ funds were being funneled to Defendants, Plaintiffs were the primary source of funding and capitalization for Defendants. In exchange, Plaintiffs received nothing,” as per the statement mentioned in the lawsuit.

But, seemingly what makes the situation even more severe is that they ignored Mayfield’s question regarding the missing money. According to the lawsuit, Camwood “invented fictional explanations for their actions.” However, there is more to it than what catches the naked eye.
