Does Andrei Iosivas' diverse family background give him an edge over other NFL rookies?

Bengals wide receiver Andrei Iosivas loved football since childhood. He started playing at the age of five, even playing other sports so that he could become fast on the gridiron. A sports prodigy, he is Hawaii’s youngest Taekwondo second-degree black belt. The path to the NFL would have much been harder if his parents didn’t support him.

His father, Mihai Iosivas, and mother, Evelyn, saw their son doing intense practice to become a top-notch footballer. Talking about Andrei’s passion for football, Mihai said, “Football is his first love. He only wanted to run track to get faster as he started playing football.Iosivas’ parents have an interesting story of their own.

Mihai was born in Romania and grew up there. But chaos erupted in 1989 with the fall of the Berlin Wall. As soon as he completed his Master’s in computer science at the Technical University of Cluj Napoca, Romania, Mihai moved out of the country. The first country he went to was Japan, where he met someone special.

While working in Japan, Mihai met Evelyn Bing. She knew 3 languages – English, Tagalog, and Japanese. But the computer geek was mesmerized by her beauty. Andrei Iosivas perfectly describes his mother (in her younger days) as, “A student slash model slash translator.

Just like the couple took time to understand each other, they have worked extensively on their children. The father is excessively proud of his son’s achievements, saying, “My biggest accomplishment is my kids. I worked on them every single day since they were born.” And his work has finally paid off.
