How much credit should Pete and Jayne Thielen get for Adam's success in the NFL?

Adam Thielen, a wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers, is now the next big thing. He has crafted one of the most inspiring success stories in NFL history. Adam grew up in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, where his parents instilled strong family values. They emphasized the importance of sticking together, working hard, and staying humble. These lessons became the foundation of his character. Let us get to know more about them

What does Adam Thielen’s father do for a living?

Father Pete Thielen and mother Jayne Thielen created a nurturing environment for Adam and his two older sisters, Amanda and Angela. Imagine a 20-acre property surrounded by woods! Their home became the neighborhood hangout, where Adam regularly turned their large yard into a makeshift football field, complete with string and cones for boundaries. The parents fondly remember watching as the neighborhood kids would gather to play, with their son often leading the charge.

Pete, a gas station worker in Callaway, and Jayne, who grew up in Sebeka, shared a deep love for northern Minnesota’s close-knit community. When Adam expressed his desire to pursue a career in the NFL, both his parents were supportive, although they initially found it hard to believe. His put-up was, “He was going to be a receiver, like, I’d ask him, you sure you don’t want to be a quarterback, Adam, and he said no, he says I don’t want to be a quarterback because I can’t throw,” mentioning his childhood desire to become a receiver.

Mother Thielen admits she giggled under her breath when the WR first mentioned trying out for the NFL, but they never discouraged him. Instead, they watched in awe as their child’s grit led him to become one of the league’s top wide receivers. Even as Adam’s fame has grown, his father and mother have remained a constant presence in his life.

They make the weekly trip from Detroit Lakes to Minneapolis for every home game, continuing their tradition of tailgating and enjoying the game-day atmosphere. His mother said in an interview, “Sometimes, even now, I think, really, could that be our kid out there?” Seeing their son’s number 19 jersey now worn by people across the state, including at every table in local restaurants, is a matter of pride for them.

The Panther’s WR’s dedication to family shines through in his roles as a husband and father. With his wife Caitlin, Adam joyfully welcomed their son Asher last year, discovering the perfect balance between the relentless demands of the NFL and the warmth of home life. What a fulfilling new chapter! In 2018, the couple launched the Thielen Foundation, focusing on youth development, mental health, and empowering children. Being a member of a thriving family, Thielen’s career has also thrived.

Have an interesting take?

Adam Thielen’s journey from an overlooked college player to an NFL star has been a remarkable tale. In 2013, there were 967 draft-eligible wide receivers, yet only 12 of them were still playing in the NFL five years later. Believe it, Thielen was one of those 12.

He was a youngster then when he signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent. Initially making his mark on special teams, Thielen’s relentless work ethic earned ͏him a spot as a wide receiver. His breakthrough came in the 2017 season when he ͏amassed over 1,200 receiving yards ͏and secured his first Pro Bowl ͏selection. We’ll know him for his precise route running, dependable hands, and ability to make ͏crucial plays. Arguably, the Minnesota product quickly became a favorite target ͏for quarterbacks. In a ͏short time, he formed a strong partnership with Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.

His path to the NFL was anything but typical. Despite a stellar college career with 198 receptions, 2,802 yards, and 20 touchdowns, the 34-year-old wasn’t on any team’s radar as of the 2013 draft. Without an NFL Scouting Combine invite, the Vikings’ wideout borrowed money from his father to attend a regional combine in Chicago. His standout performance there led to a super regional invite in Dallas, catching the Vikings’ eye. He once said, “I’m fortunate. I’m so thankful for just the whole situation because, but yeah. I mean. I was able to go into training camp this year and just be able to play football,” expressing his gratitude for whatever he is having.

Fast forward to 2023, and Thielen continues to ͏prove his worth ͏in the NFL, now playing for the Carolina Panthers. The 34-year-old has already caught 49 ͏passes for 509 yards and four ͏touchdowns in just six games, putting him on pace for a career-best season. Despite ͏the Panthers’ struggles and ͏a 0-6 start, their wide- receiver’s consistency and ͏leadership have made him a crucial ͏part of the team.  He is also the one for aiding in the development of rookie quarterback Br͏yce You͏ng͏.
