Cowboys or Steelers: Which team truly deserves the Hall of Fame game spotlight more?

The NFL preseason 2024 will kick off in a few hours with the NFL Hall of Fame Game. Every year, the NFL hosts the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, bringing lots of excitement for sports enthusiasts. Interestingly, the NFL’s preseason opener games take place in the birthplace of the National Football League- which is Canton, Ohio.

112 teams have competed in the Hall of Fame Game since 1962 and surprisingly, none of them then have achieved the SB Trophy yet. Now, regarding the most appearances in the NFL Hall of Fame Game, two NFL teams are tied for the same: the  Dallas Cowboys and the  Pittsburgh Steelers, both teams have played the game seven times.

Other than these two teams, one team has six appearances, and seven teams have five appearances in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game:

The Pittsburgh Steelers last appeared in the Hall of Fame Game in 2021. Earlier, the team thrilled their fans in 2015, 2007, 1998, 1983, 1964, and 1963. Three years ago, in 2021, the five-time Super Bowl-winning team, the Dallas Cowboys, also appeared in the NFL Hall of Fame Game. Previously, the NFL’s most distinguished team appeared in the same in 2017, 2013, 2010, 1999, 1979, and 1968.

Fascinatingly, out of these two teams, the Steelers have clinched a higher number of triumphs in all their appearances. The Steelers displayed dominance, notching four wins in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, while the Cowboys have gained three impressive wins in their total of seven appearances. However, it is not only the six-time SB-winning team, the Steelers that have garnered the most victories; two other NFL franchises, the Las Vegas/Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders and the Chicago Bears, also secured a similar number of victories.

Additionally, three NFL teams have made the least appearances in the NFL season-opening games. They only participated a single time since the inception of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Games in 1962.
