Could Taylor Swift's influence on NFL play-calling be the Chiefs' secret weapon?

Taylor Swift doesn’t seem to keep herself away from the NFL, even though her boyfriend Travis Kelce was nowhere to be seen at her concert in Miami. While Taylor changed her song Karma’s lyrics to shout out the Chiefs’ TE, it seems she has found herself doing the play calling of the Commanders. Although this could seem odd, Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury spoke about how Taylor Swift inspired a touchdown scored by rookie TE Ben Sinnott.

As the Commanders went on a rampage, beating the Panthers 40-7 in Washington, Kingsbury might have shared a little secret of theirs. When Ben Sinnott scored his first TD in the third quarter, the Commanders OC said, “His first catch was a touchdown and the play was called Taylor Swift. We probably carried it three weeks and just finally got to calling it.”

Although there isn’t any circumstantial evidence behind the play being inspired by the Grammy Winner. It did have some shades that could be linked to Taylor Swift. After catching a three-yard TD pass made by Marcus Mariota, Sinnott ran into a “blank space” to score an easy TD. Well, it was also highly creative, as Sinnott did a fake to the Panthers’ edge defender before running to the corner for an open space.

However, this isn’t the first time that play-calling was named after certain personalities or superstars. Going back to the 2023 season, Bengals QB Joe Burrow did play calling, referencing Tom Brady, Steven Speilberg, Karate and even b—-. Joining him on the fun was Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen, who was heard play-calling LeBron James, taking the Jaguars last season. This even caught the attention of the NBA GOAT himself as he tweeted, “I wonder what that LeBron James audible Josh Allen yelled out meant. LOL.”

Even two-time Super Bowl champion Peyton Manning used to yell “Omaha” while play calling during his NFL career. And this brought so much attraction that Manning later decided to name his production company Omaha for his fans. Coming back to Taylor Swift’s reference for a play-call in Washington on Sunday, this wasn’t the first time Kelce’s girlfriend found herself doing so.

Is Taylor Swift writing plays for the Chiefs?

Although there is the mastermind Andy Reid handling the play calling for the Chiefs this season, there might be someone else who can work alongside the Chiefs coach. Yes, we are talking about Taylor Swift, as the Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes spoke about how she has been busy drawing up plays for them: “She’s really interested in football, and she asks a lot of great questions. She’s already drawing up plays, so we might have to put one in.”

While the Chiefs have done exceptionally this season, having won 6 in a row, there aren’t shouts of Swift’s playing being used. However, she has been a huge supporter of the Chiefs, often catching their games live alongside Mahomes wife Brittany, “I think it’s been cool to see the girls and the women that have really embraced watching football.” Although there could be certain instances of Swift play-calling in Kansas City, there is only one boss.

Have an interesting take?

As Mahomes reiterated the significance of Reid’s play-calling, “He’s the best. Obviously, he’s one of the best coaches of all time, especially of offensive minds. The way he’s able to continue to bring us new plays and bring us new motions and stuff to pique our interest and keep us in every single week of the season is one of a kind.” Well, Reid’s play-calling this season has helped the Chiefs continue their fine form from last season.

But the question is, can they etch their name in the NFL history books by securing the three-peat? Well, who know? They might want to put in some Taylor Swift if they want to catch their opponent off guard in crucial encounters this season.
