As kids, we all have dreams of what we want to be when we grow up. And isn’t it just wholesome when we get to achieve those dreams? Patrick Taylor Jr. must have felt heartbroken after not being drafted into the NFL in 2020. Starting his football journey with the Memphis Tigers, all he could have hoped for was to make it to the NFL. But his journey was not going to be an easy one. While some players get drafted on the first try and make waves in their debut season, others don’t even get a chance to step onto the field.
And Taylor Jr. faced a similar fate. But that was not going to stop him from chasing his dreams. Over the next three years, he moved between practice squads and active rosters, first with the Packers and then with the Patriots. The RB struggled a lot throughout his 5-year career, but not for a second did he give up on his dreams. In 2024, the Texas-born running back found a new home with the Red and Gold, the 49ers.

How much does Patrick Taylor Jr. make?
The Memphis alum scored his first touchdown with the 49ers against the
Bears in Week 14. He’s been the go-to guy in the backfield, with six carries in the last quarter. This is the beginning of a new journey for the 26-year-old. Let’s see how long he’s around with the 49ers. After getting called up to the active roster in week 14, Patrick Taylor Jr. turned some heads, even as the backup RB. The RB signed a one-year, $1,055,000 deal with the 49ers back in April. With his recent performance against the Bears, he has shown he is a player of caliber.

For the Memphis Tigers, he was their second top rusher with 546 yards on 93 carries and 2 TDs. His senior year got cut short, though, because of a foot injury. But he still managed to finish with 350 yards and 5 TDs. For the 2024 season, Taylor earned a base salary of $1,055,000, which is modest. But he is proving to be better on the field. Currently, we do not have any information about his signing amount with the team. His cap hit for the season is $293,055. The RB will get a cash payout of $293,056 this year.
The number is much smaller than what most RBs in the league make. But don’t forget, he can turn things around with his performance, and he’s already started. All he has to do is keep putting up good numbers and score some wins for the team.
How long is Patrick Taylor Jr.’s contract?
The 49ers are going through a tough time with RB1 Christian McCaffrey sidelined for the rest of the season. McCaffrey suffered a PCL sprain injury following the loss to the Bills in Week 13. He wasn’t the only RB to go down, though. Jordan Mason faced a similar fate. That’s when the team had to turn to Isaac Guerendo and Patrick Taylor Jr. The Memphis alum is currently serving as the backup RB to Guerendo.
The 26-year-old is currently playing for the 49ers with a one-year deal worth $1,055,000, signed on April 8, 2024. Taylor will hit free agency in the 2025 season, meaning he has just a few games left to prove his worth. The 49ers are still up in the air when it comes to making the NFC West playoffs, let alone the Super Bowl championship. The Seahawks are leading with an 8-5 record, followed by the Rams at 7-6. Both the Cardinals and 49ers are tied at 6-7.
They’ll face their divisional foes, the Rams, in Week 15. If they beat them and manage to win the other three games left, there might still be hope. But these ‘ifs’ aren’t looking too promising. Anyway, Patrick Taylor Jr. has four games left. Hopefully, he’ll keep turning heads like he did in the recent game.
