When we talk about running backs, what comes to our mind? Rushing yards and touchdowns, among other things. But, in the case of the Dallas Cowboys RB Rico Dowdle, the highlight is his injuries. However, the Cowboys are still sticking to the 26-year-old with 4-years of league experience despite frequent injuries. As the RB has quite some time left with the Cowboys, let’s check out what his latest contract has to offer him.
What is Rico Dowdle’s salary?
The RB’s injuries are not just a gift from the league. They’re more of a carryover from his college days. And it seems like they never fully healed. However, the Cowboys happened to draft him as an undrafted free agent in the 2020 NFL draft. Let’s rewind a bit to where it all started. A solid college football career with the South Carolina landed him a $2.29 million worth contract. And he stacked up an annual salary of $765,000 on average. The contract was for 3 years with $10k and $110k as a signing bonus and guaranteed income. Despite this, the Cowboys couldn’t utilise him for all of those years.

Dowdle had an impeccable rookie season, no doubt there. I mean, he racked up 4-kickoff returns for 152 yards in just 15 games. However, the Big D had to put him on injury reserve when a hip injury slowed him down in the following season. With one more year left on his contract, one would imagine he’d pull in some numbers. But a 2022 ankle injury sidelined him for the season. Once Again!

Fast forward to 2023. The Cowboys’ coaching staff showed faith in the RB and he landed a one-year extension worth $1,040,000. This deal includes a base salary of $1,040,000 with a $100k signing bonus and an additional $100k guaranteed. Luckily, Dowdle appeared in 16 games last season, rushing for 361 yards and averaging 4.1 yards per carry.
Seems like Jerry Jones’ team doesn’t plan to let him go anytime soon. After his one-year extension wrapped up, the 26-year-old renewed his contract—again—in March 2024, raking in a solid $1.25 million a year. His updated contract has a base salary of $1,055,000 plus a $200k signing bonus. But will he be signing another contract come next season? Or is he spending 2025 with the Cowboys only?

How long is the Cowboys’ RB’s contract?
When Tony Pollard parted ways with the Cowboys, the management reached out to Dowdle and that’s why his contract was renewed. This time around, the management signed him as a backup RB for the ‘Boys.’ Yep! That’s right! So Dowdle is staying put for another year as the Cowboys sealed a new deal with number 23. It is yet to be seen where he will go next year. Who knows, the Cowboys might sign him once again!

Appearing in 11 games this season, the RB has amassed 600 rushing yards while racking up one TD, averaging 4.2 yards per carry. Well, it seems the RB has quite a lot to show on the gridiron, that is, if he remains injury-free. Remember when the Cowboys met NY Giants in week 13? Yeah, the one where he scored his first TD this season. He finished with 112 rushing yards, putting up an average of 5.1 yards per attempt.

As of now, Dowdle has an estimated net worth of $4,278,838. If the injury doesn’t hold him back, Dowdle can surely have a future with the Cowboys. Having racked up his first TD this season, Rico Dowdle is surely prepping to take on the Panthers next week, even though sitting at 5-8, the Dallas team is almost out of playoffs.
