Patrick Mahomes is the NFL’s biggest superstar and one of the most marketable names. The Chiefs QB is enjoying his 7th season for the Chiefs, and also his 7th postseason. Maybe not so much ‘enjoying’ given the run they’ve been in, but Mahomes can still be happy knowing he is one of the league’s highest earners.
But how high? While Mahomes has one of the league’s biggest contracts at nearly half a billion, there are a few other names to challenge him in that aspect. Surprisingly, Mahomes isn’t the season’s highest earner either.

If you thought Joe Burrow, who signed an NFL-record 5-year, $262.5 million contract last September was the league’s highest earner, you are wrong. That’s because the Bengals quarterback’s salary only takes effect from the 2024 season, which starts in September. As of the current season, he remains only 7th with $45 million, including endorsements.
It’s actually Ravens‘ Lamar Jackson, whose 5-year, $260 million contract signed last May makes him the highest-paid athlete in the current season, with an annual salary of $52 million. Adding that, with the number of endorsements, brandings, appearances, and bonuses, the total value of Jackson’s earnings reaches a staggering $81.5 million.
He is followed by the Chiefs’ Mahomes. Who, despite boasting the largest contract extension in North American sporting history at a whopping 10-year, $450 million, earns ‘only’ $60.5 million from the season. Which is more than $20 million less than the Ravens’ MVP contender. The following season, when the later-signed extensions start activating, the Chiefs QB will be pushed down from his 2nd spot.
That being said, what does Mahomes’ net worth look like at the beginning of 2024?

Mahomes is by far the most marketable athlete in the NFL, following Brady’s retirement. He posted nearly $20 million in off-field earnings in 2023. Which takes his estimated net worth to $70 million at the beginning of 2023. A significant part of the sum also comes from his 2 PM brand line under Adidas, and other sponsorship deals, such as Prime energy drink.

He also co-owns a certain number of sporting franchises, including MLS’s Sporting Kansas City, NWSL’s Kansas City Currents, MLB’s Kansas City Royals, Formula One’s BWT Alpine F1, and even the Miami Pickleball club. Mahomes sees some of his yearly incomes from these ventures too.

The QB further earns a significant amount from his nearly 10 million social media followers, with 6 million from Instagram itself. Mahomes might not be the NFL’s highest-paid star, but he is the face of the league and boasts the highest off-field income with his $70 million fortune in 2024.
