Are the Irsay daughters the future of NFL leadership, or is it just a family affair?

Did you know? The Colts are one of the two teams in the league to have won Super Bowls while being based in two different cities—Baltimore and Indianapolis (the other is the Raiders). But you don’t hear much about the pre-1997 era. Why? Let’s just say, it’s due to the way Jim Irsay has run the modern-day Colts. The man’s not just an NFL owner—and he makes sure to remind us now and then—he grew up with the team. Quite literally!

From tagging along at summer camps to hopping on team bus rides, Irsay was there long before he took control. When his father, Robert Irsay, passed away in 1997. Jim stepped into the owner’s seat and quickly made his mark. 14 winning seasons, 1 Lombardi Trophy (in ’06). Yeah, if that’s not peak, then what is? And the reward cannot be any sweeter, as his current net worth stands tall at $4.8 billion. It’s not just about building the franchise; it’s about the Irsay empire.

Who is Jim Irsay dating after divorce from ex-wife Meg Coyle?

But before we talk about the next-gen Irsays, it’s more than important that we learn a little about the family. Before Jim and his ex-wife decided to go separate ways, of course.

After tying the knot in 1980, for over three decades, the couple shared their lives and raised three daughters. But after living apart for more than a decade, Meg filed for divorce in 2013, ending their 33-year marriage. It was a mutual decision, according to their statement, though surely a tough one after so many years together.

Difficult as it was, the split did not change Jim’s role with the Colts. And after 9 years after the divorce from his wife, he found love in a lawyer. Michelle Paul was 51 when she met the billionaire. They hit it off, and it didn’t take long for Michelle to make her mark, both in Jim’s life and in his luxurious lifestyle. You know it’s serious when someone is literally inspired to rename their private jet because of you, right?

Yup! Michelle inspired Jim to turn his plane into a cruelty-free masterpiece. They ripped out every piece of leather and wool and replaced it with vegan materials. And just like that, Jim’s private jet became the Blue Vegan,” complete with a vegan Colts’ logos. Not your average billionaire move. But hey, it’s Jim Irsay—he does things his way.

Are the Irsay daughters the future of NFL leadership, or is it just a family affair?

Have an interesting take?

Michelle didn’t stop there. Her influence even made its way to Lucas Oil Stadium, where Jim introduced vegan menu options for Colts fans. Guess what his daughters had to say about that, considering they are the future of not just the franchise but the Irsays as well.

How many children does Jim have?

Jim and Meg ended their chapter. But they are bonded for life through their three daughters — Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt and Kalen Irsay. And guess what? They are each a vice chair/owner of the team. That’s a vision of the future right there.

You might remember in 2014 when Carlie Irsay-Gordon stepped in to run the show during Jim’s absence, taking over day-to-day operations. A strong move, right? Jim’s personal struggles at the time—following his arrest for OWI and possession of a controlled substance—led him to seek treatment. But Carlie seamlessly took the reins. The Colts weren’t just holding down the fort; they were redefining what leadership looked like.

With Carlie leading the charge, they shifted focus towards empowering women in football. From bringing in physical therapist MacKenzie Scovill to creating a culture of gender equality, the Irsays were setting some bold standards. And Carlie was all about nurturing talent, saying it’s like planting seeds that need the right environment to truly grow.

Her words hit home: “If you prep the beds, fertilize the soil, and water the seeds, they thrive.” It’s not just about having women in the room—it’s about making sure they can succeed in a space that actually supports them. That’s the kind of game-changing mindset Carlie and her sisters Casey and Kalen are bringing to the Colts.
