When you take a step back and look at Devaughn Vele’s journey to the NFL, it’s clear that his story is built on grit, belief, and not taking ‘no’ for an answer. Despite leading his high school team to their first State Championship title in 2015, colleges overlooked him. But Vele wasn’t about to let that stop him. After high school, Vele served a two-year LDS mission in Samoa, proving that his commitment was bigger than any setback.
In fact, the wide receiver also received a scholarship from the University of Utah. He performed like he was waiting for the perfect opportunity, and after a breakout season in his senior year at Utah, Vele went for the 2024 NFL draft. Eventually, the Denver Broncos had their eyes set on Vele in the seventh round.

Looking at his age, one might think of him as a veteran of the game, but that’s the 27-year-old rookie for you. The Denver team drafted Vele for a contract worth $4.1 million. The rookie contract plays a major role in Vele’s career earnings. However, his net worth has not been publicly disclosed yet, but depending on his contract and brand endorsement deals, there is no doubt the rookie is making a decent chunk of change.
We still have our eyes on how much his bank balance will be worth this year. As part of the contract terms, Vele got a signing bonus of $104K with a guaranteed income as an add-on. The contract with the Broncos is making him an average annual salary of around $1 million. And for 2024, the guy is taking home $795K. Decent enough for a rookie who had an impeccable collegiate career.
In his senior year at Utah, Vele caught 50 passes for nearly 600 yards while racking up 5 touchdowns. Well, after this, the wideout pretty much made up his mind to declare for the NFL draft. However, Vele stayed for his final year and tallied over 40 receptions for 593 yards and racked up three TDs.

Number 81 has entered the NFL with a strong sense of purpose and a four-year contract with the Denver team. If all goes well, the rookie is all set to stick with the Broncos until 2027. Standing at 6’5” and weighing over 200 pounds, Vele made his NFL debut with eight receptions for nearly 40 yards against the Seattle Seahawks. Though the rookie had a pretty good start to his NFL career, the Broncos lost their week 1 game by 26-20.

Out of 11 games that he has played so far, Vele pulled in 35 receptions for nearly 400 yards and racked up two TDs with an average of 11.4 yards per carry. The guy got his first pro football touchdown in week 10 when the Broncos clashed with the reigning champions.
On the flip side, the Denver team is facing a tough path for securing a playoff berth after losing to the Bills last week. However, the team is now preparing for their last game of 2024 against the Bengals on Sunday. Along with the starters, Devaughn Vele has to step up as the team sights for their 10th win of the season.
