The ethnicity of Amon-Ra is varied, drawing from his diverse heritage. While his mom, Miriam Steyer is German, his dad, John Brown is an African-American bodybuilding legend. Growing up in Compton, California, John is a two-time Mr. Universe champion. And, it was he who named his sons after Egyptian gods, including St. for some more drama. He further commented on the significance of Brown in Amon-Ra’s name, adding, “Brown was a slave name. I thought it would look cool on the back of a jersey.”
Even Miriam had a huge role to play in his cultural upbringing. She wanted her family to speak only German at home, while John also wanted to attend French Academy in Los Angeles. With her attempts to protect her heritage, she adds, “I didn’t care if their friends understood what I was saying. I told the boys they could translate later.”
So, Amon-Ra St. Brown had a promising trilingual upbringing, mastering German, French, and English. Appreciating his mom’s efforts, he adds, “I can’t thank [my mom] enough for teaching us a language… it’s the best gift you can give a kid.” And, with this he has truly preserved his individuality.
What is Amon-Ra St. Brown’s nationality?
Owing to his parents’ nationality, Amon-Ra St. Brown holds dual citizenship, i.e., in the US and Germany. As he was born on October 24, 1999, in Anaheim Hills, California, his immediate socio-cultural influence in America didn’t deter him from keeping a touch with his German roots. Growing up with his brothers Equanimeous St. Brown, and Osiris St. Brown, the family has traveled quite extensively.

Talking of his love for Germany, Amon-Ra adds, “I always really love coming back to Germany. It reminds me of when I was young.” During the summers in Germany, he used to participate enthusiastically in Bayer Leverkusen soccer camps.
Not just this, in 2023, he even organized a football clinic in Cologne. And, while he took to represent Germany at high school, he also equally honors his American heritage, during his time at USC and NFL. Such understanding of his heritage truly stems from his parents, for which he is ever thankful.
