Tears started falling from AJ Brown’s eyes when he heard that he was being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2022 NFL Draft. How could this happen to a receiver who put up a near-perfect season leading up to the draft? Well, Brown, though sad, didn’t worry too much about it. Instead, he called Jalen Hurts and told him he “was ready for a new start.”
How is he so calm and composed during the storm? Well, for one, he believes that his fate has better plans for him. What plans? Landing in the Super Bowl in the first year of his transfer. For Brown, the experience was very spiritual, as he mentioned in an interview before his Super Bowl appearance. These incidents prompted us to explore Brown’s faith.

“I’m a Christian first, before anything,” Brown expressed in 2020. “When I step out on the field, I want to say thank you for the blessing, for everything, because I don’t have to do this. I get to do this. So, I always wear a cross.” The 3x Pro Bowler is known to pray before games too and he heavily leans on “Romans 8:18,” to guide him in life.
Even after a stellar near 1,500-yard season in 2022, Brown maintained his humility when he reached the Super Bowl. He emphasized that he plays for “no man,” and that God has given him “ability to play that game,” and he’s just doing his best to honor the blessing he’s been given. The Philadelphia Eagles receiver is more self-aware than you might take him to be.
He mentioned earlier that his own plans don’t take precedence over what God has to offer him. Instead, Brown reads “the Bible a lot because that’s how I fight my problems.” The WR also mentioned how he’s not a “perfect guy,” and he just lets his faith guide him to make him a better, stronger human being.
“The pain you have been feeling cannot compare to the joy that is coming,” is what Romans 8:18 has taught him in life. There’s even a tradition that AJ Brown goes through before a game.

We’ve often seen Brown with a Jesus piece, and one of the most notable things he does is paint a cross on his face before going on the field. He’s been doing it since his college days. But why does he do that? While we’ve established that his faith is very important to him, the cross on his face also symbolizes his gratitude for everything he has in life.

“When I step out on the field, I want to say thank you for the blessings, for everything, because I don’t have to do this. I get to do this. So, I always wear a cross,” Brown said in an interview back in 2020. As it turns out, Brown is a huge Lauryn Hill fan, and his Instagram posts feature several excerpts from the singer’s speeches glorifying God.
So far, Brown’s career has been nothing short of wonderful moments. Perhaps his faith in something higher always brings out the best in him.
