Just when the Chiefs were celebrating the return of Hollywood Brown to their receiver room, they are now facing injury concerns with rookie receiver Xavier Worthy. It seems the Chiefs just can’t keep themselves out of injury troubles this season. After losing Rashee Rice to a season-ending knee injury, Worthy has massively stepped up in his rookie year. And more of the same was expected of him against the AFC South Champions.
But just before the second half, Worthy found himself injured through non-contact. While trying to run a route against the Texans CB Jeff Okudah late in the first half, Worthy went down with an ankle ailment. Everything happened in a flash when the Chiefs were going for a second-and-10. As Worthy limped off to the sidelines, the Chiefs then took their second timeout to end the half.
Now, seconds later, Worthy was tagged questionable with an ankle injury. However, after running some tests on his ankle, early signs showed that Worthy could be back on the gridiron anytime soon. Before exiting today’s clash, the 21-year-old had him targeted five times by Patrick Mahomes. And Worthy was yet again phenomenal in all of those targets. As he caught four of those passes for 26 yards.

Well, the rookie receiver didn’t just contribute by catching Mahomes’ passes. He also had two carries for three yards, thereby showing his talent for rushing. Now, Worthy has been a truly integral part of the Chiefs’ dominance in recent weeks. He has no less than 4 catches dating back to the Chiefs’ first loss against the Bills in week 11.
Even Andy Reid spoke highly of his rookie receiver as he continues to impress him, “He’s getting better. I think that’s what we all can see. It’s not a secret. He’s putting that out there for everybody to see. He’s got the trust of the quarterback, he’s got the trust of the coaches, He’s playing fast. But you you’ve got to keep putting the product out there.” Without Worthy, it isn’t like the Chiefs have a lack of options. They have Hollywood Brown back for the first time in a while.

Hollywood Brown returns to Chiefs lineup as they face injury scare with Xavier Worthy
Hollywood Browns has finally made his debut for the Chiefs after signing with them this offseason. Although the former Cardinals receiver was supposed to be a key part of the Chiefs receiver room from the very beginning. He couldn’t play a single game until today because of his shoulder injury. Yes, that shoulder injury that Brown suffered before the regular season kept him out until the 15th week of the NFL. It was ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler who first broke the news of Brown getting activated from the injury reserves.
Well, the Chiefs are fresh off a second consecutive Super Bowl win, so they need more reinforcements to help Patrick Mahomes. Besides drafting Xavier Worthy, who is leading the receiving yards in Kansas City with 494 (before week 16). The former Ravens WR could also help ease up the pressure from the rookie. His last 1,000+ receiving yards season came with the Ravens back in 2021. Then, in the following seasons, Brown has at least crossed the 700 mark to showcase his consistency.

Now, with Mahomes by his side, Brown is surely expected to break those numbers. But it’s still early for him to do that. As the Chiefs have a lot of competition in their receiver room once all of their players are deemed fit.
