Can the Titans' defense survive without Roger McCreary after that brutal collision with Aaron Rodgers?

Week 2 is off and popping! It might be doing the latter, quite literally. The Titans’ CB Roger McCreary gave a scare to the fans when he collided with Aaron Rodgers during the game against the Jets. What added to the nervousness was the walk toward the tent, clutching his wrists.

But the latest updates coming from the sidelines might have Tennessee fans in glee, sort of that is. ESPN’s Titans’ insider, Turron Davenport, reported: “Roger McCreary is out of the tent and holding his helmet. Doesn’t appear to have any issues with the wrist.”

If not a wrist injury, then what is it? Let’s have a rundown, from the collision to the time he was out of the tent.

  • In a pass rush just before halftime, McCreary collided with A-Rod, laying in pain on the gridiron.
  • At first look, it seemed an injury to the left wrist as he was brought to the tent.
  • Minutes later, he came out of the tent and that’s when the reports came that it wasn’t an injury to the wrist.
  • Returns on the gridiron after the break and reports say it’s a shoulder injury.

The good thing is, he returned. And an even better thing is that it’s not a concussion. But any updates that are to follow would come in the next few hours, if not days, post the game.

One thing’s for sure, no one or nothing’s standing between Roger McCreary and his mission for the 2024 season. And what’s that? To become one of the defense starters for the Titans.

Have an interesting take?

Roger McCreary wants to channel his ‘inner’ Jamal Adams!

But for that, Roger McCreary might have to overcome some serious competition. With GM Ran Carthon bringing in seasoned players like Chidobe Awuzie and L’Jarius Sneed, plus Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams, the defensive backfield has leveled up.

However, McCreary’s past performance—ranking third in pass breakups and fourth in tackles—gives him a fighting chance. And an added perk is that he’s eager to learn from the veterans. “Those guys are who you look up to and just want to play with,” he noted. With Sneed’s Super Bowl victories and Awuzie’s solid tackle and interception stats, you know McCreary’s in for a treat.

Though, he is more impressed with Adams’ plays. “I’ve seen his games. I know how he plays,” Roger said, adding, “He’s aggressive and I see how he is in that box. I’m trying to be aggressive like him.” And why shouldn’t he be? Adams’ one-year, $1.125 million deal is his “prove-it” contract, and McCreary’s all in for the ride. With 21.5 sacks and 494 tackles under his belt, Adams is a beast in the secondary. And McCreary? He wants a piece of that intensity into his own game.

Slotting in as the nickel corner isn’t just about being a defensive ace; it’s also about stepping up as a vocal leader. McCreary’s ready but the rest of the season depends on the updates on his current injury situation. Hope he gets on to his mission sooner rather than later.
