Did Patrick Mahomes' fall on Kyle Van Noy's head just change the Ravens' season?

Ow! That seems like a painful hit for the Baltimore Ravens linebacker, Kyle Van Noy. The Ravens are facing off against their last year’s AFC competitor, the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. However, during the game on Thursday night football, the Purple team had to see a major blow in their roster.

During the matchup, Kyle Van Noy was seen on the ground “after Patrick Mahomes fell on his head.” This happened when the quarterback threw a pass, nearly saving himself from a sack, but the Ravens’ defense tackled him, leading him to fall to the ground. But just at that moment, when Mahomes was falling, Noy missed and fell to the ground early before the QB. Consequently, the 28-year-old Chiefs’ star fell on him.

Due to this hit, Kyle Van Noy had to walk off the field for mandatory checkups. Although he was able to walk off the field under his own power, the severity of the injury was later revealed by the Ravens’ social media post. As per the recent updates, Noy is now questionable to return, as he suffered an eye injury.

This injury happened when the Chiefs were ahead of the Ravens 20-10 midway through the third quarter. By that time, the “Chiefs scored one touchdown in the first half and one in the second half, while the Ravens scored the first touchdown of the game.

Unfortunately, Ravens star Kyle Van Noy’s misery continues! After the gut wrenching loss to Chiefs due to Isaiah Likely’s touchdown getting ruled out, Noy has just received his medical diagnosis as well. Reportedly, the 33-year-old has suffered a broken orbital bone and currently there’s no word on when he may return to the gridiron.

The 33-year-old linebacker is one of the veteran leaders on the Ravens’ defense. Last season, after stepping in early with the Ravens, he recorded a career high nine sacks. Whoa! It was definitely a breakthrough. Why? It’s because for most of his career, Kyle Van Noy had played a different role, but focusing on pass-rushing last year unlocked his full potential. Hence, the Ravens brought him back for 2-year, on a $12 million deal for his third season with the team. But this injury has impacted his 2024 season opener.

After injury hit Kyle Van Noy’s starting game against the Chiefs, he went to the bench immediately where the medical team checked his eyes. Soon, it was revealed that he isn’t returning the gridiron on Thursday, and hence, his backup at SAM linebacker, Tavius Robinson, came to the field. Besides Noy, Ravens’ another important player of the game, also fell into the injured list.

During the fourth quarter, the Ravens were looking bleak with 20-10. But “the MVP quarterback gave Isaiah Likely a 50/50 ball, and the former Coastal Carolina pass-catcher did the rest, taking the pass 49 yards in for a dazzling touchdown to pull the Ravens within three.” However, later he was down with a right shoulder injury.

But that didn’t stop him, as he came back in after that injury to help the team to gain a few more points to win the matchup. However, that couldn’t happen, and the Chiefs won the 2024 season opener 27-20.
