Is Jordan Love the future of the Packers, or should fans be worried about his durability?

An uncomfortable start to the season for the Green Bay Packers on Friday, it wasn’t the fact that they dropped the game to the Eagles, 34-29, but it was an injured QB Jordan Love gingerly assisted off the field and into the sidelines in the waning moments of the game, with just six seconds remaining on the clock. Although a replacement in Malik Willis, who joined the team at the end of August, was brought for the last two plays, he threw an incomplete pass before he was sacked to finish the game.

What happened was that the 25-year-old was hit on his lower left leg by two Eagles defenders just as he was attempting to throw a Hail Mary. The next thing you know Love has hit the ground, landed on his leg quite awkwardly, and was writhing in pain until team doctor Pat McKenzie and trainer Nate Weir reached the site. He was taken to the sideline and didn’t reenter for the remainder of the game.

Jordan Love dropped back to pass and slid on his final step, resulting in an incomplete pass in the first half. The quarterback reached for his calf after throwing a ball too high in the end zone for Romeo Doubs. He did return to the field to keep the Packers’ hope of winning alive. However, it wasn’t until the injury in the fourth quarter that ensured his early retirement from the game, ending the night with 17-for-34 passing for 260 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Trainers are now working on #Packers QB Jordan Love’s on the sideline.” When asked what happened to Love,  who became the league’s highest-paid player this offseason after carrying the Packers to the playoffs last year, Head Coach Matt LaFleur’s words didn’t do much to lift the uncertainties: “I don’t know.”

Now, fans are worried about him, hoping that these hits on the calf and ankle, which he got in the second half, aren’t too serious! But, the ACL and MCL injury concerns are definitely haunting them this time. According to DPT, Dr. Evan Jeffries, Jordan Love’s injury “Looks to be a high ankle sprain and needs to rule out lower leg fracture.”

Another DPT, Jeff Mueller, raised a similar concern “for Left MCL sprain and/or high ankle sprain.” After watching the final few moments of Love being hit, Mueller highlighted that Love is “hobbling on the sideline but didn’t have trainers working on him on the bench.” Some are also hoping that “Love’s ankle isn’t broken.

Has there been an update? No, there has been no update at this point, it seems likely he’ll undergo testing in the coming days to get a diagnosis of the injury. Whether the fact that there was not too noticeable a limp as he walked out of the locker room is good news, time will tell. He didn’t speak to the reporters.

QB Jalen Hurts didn’t rush to the locker room to celebrate Eagles’ season-opening victory

Yes, he stayed. The 26-year-old was in search of his fellow fourth-year QB and walked over for a shake, a warm hug, and lifted his spirits. Love was seated with his legs relaxed and extended.

The Eagles’ fifth-year QB’s performance too was far from perfect. However, opening the 2024 season by throwing for 278 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, the positive remained in the fact that he stepped up when the team needed him most. Leading a 16-play drive that lasted over seven minutes and went deep in the fourth quarter, the QB certainly did enough to skew the win in the favor of the City of Brotherly Love.
