Can the Vikings survive without Jordan Addison if his injury turns out to be serious?

The Minnesota Vikings showed their own against the Giants. The Nordic Gods were behind their warriors, it seems. But one Viking fell. Jordan Addison. Always a nervous outing when the players are called to the tent. His condition was being monitored as the Vikes hoped that it was nothing too serious. The plan was to pass week 1 without any concerns. Alas, it was not to be.

The team’s official X handle posted the nervy statement first: “Vikings WR Jordan Addison is headed to the medical tent.” In the hope that it would not go ‘dwale’ from Skol, but it did. Just minutes later, reports indicated that he was ruled out owing to an ankle sprain.

Addison returned to practice this week after nursing an ankle injury that he picked up in a practice session in August. Returning after more than a couple of weeks’ absence, he was slated right into the firing line. By Friday, he was listed as a full participant. So, it was obvious to assume that Addison was fit and ready to roll for Week 1. But plot twist! Turns out, that ankle wasn’t as healed as we all hoped.

Now, with the nature of the injury unveiled, you have to wonder: Did the Vikings rush him back, or was it just bad luck? Fortunately, Minnesota comfortably won against New York, so missing their young wideout might not have been a total disaster this time around. But, that’s football, right? The next man up mentality can only get you so far.

Before he hit the sidelines, Addison still managed three grabs for 35 yards—two of them crucial in setting up Justin Jefferson’s touchdown. However, one question arises with all this uncertainty: how long can this bad luck continue for the Vikes?

JJ McCarthy earlier, now Jordan Addison, who’s next?

“You feel for Vikings fans. It’s cold, and their suffering stretches longer than a Minnesota winter.” That’s how Chris Long put it on his Green Light podcast back in August. The pretext? JJ McCarthy’s torn meniscus—an injury that slammed the door on the rookie’s season before it even began. And now, just weeks later, Jordan Addison finds himself sidelined too, joining his young QB on the injury list. Could there be a ghost haunting the Vikes? Feels like it, right?

Addison was supposed to be the one to watch this season. After all, the 22-year-old WR put up some serious numbers in his rookie year out of USC—911 yards and 10 TDs. That’s no fluke. And the way he was getting into the groove against the Blues tonight was a showing of that. But his night was cut short.

So, how long will this setback last? Hard to say. But with T.J. Hockenson already out for the first four games because of the rehab of the ACL, the Vikings a running thin on offensive prowess right now. Is this the start of another cursed season for Minnesota? Or can they rally and keep pushing forward?
