Did Joe Burrow's injury scare reveal the Bengals' vulnerability, or is it just a minor setback?

The commentators described the Cincinnati Bengals-New York Giants game as “ugly.” Perhaps it was due to the fact that the game was uneventful and borderline scoreless until the end of the third quarter. There was nothing noteworthy except for Joe Burrow’s 47-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

However, things changed in the final quarter when Joe Burrow suddenly got injured. The score was 10-7, and Burrow faced the pressure of elevating his team’s 1-4 record. But Brian Burns, the Giants’ defensive end, had other plans. He delivered a nasty hit on Burrow, and Giants beat reporter Art Stapleton provided important updates.

The reporter took to X and wrote, “Joe Burrow is in the medical tent on the Bengals sideline after taking that shot from Brian Burns. Meanwhile, Jake Browning, his backup, is taking a few warmup tosses on the sideline”

A quick recap of the injury explains exactly what happened. Burns, who recently signed a five-year, $141 million contract with the Giants, easily found his way around the Cincinnati Bengals’ O-Line and got to Joe Burrow. It was a massive hit, and the Giants’ defensive end brought Burrow down with a bear hug.

Burrow was being examined in the blue tent while Jake Browning prepared to finish the game. Fortunately, it wasn’t a major injury, though Burrow appeared to struggle to get back up. However, the quarterback returned to watch his running back, Chase Brown, rush to the end zone with a 30-yard touchdown.

The game ended with a 17-7 score, and Cincinnati now holds a 2-4 record. Burrow finished the game with 208 yards, completing 19 of 28 passes. He also had a rushing touchdown, but nothing more. It was perhaps the most lackluster game of Sunday Night Football this season, and fans were quick to express their disappointment. Let’s quickly recap the game.

Burrow was stagnant after his first-quarter touchdown. Then, in the third quarter, Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. rushed into the end zone with a 1-yard touchdown with 5:48 remaining, following Daniel Jones’ failed deep pass attempt.

With the scores tied in the third quarter, Cincinnati kicker Evan McPherson stepped in and knocked down a 37-yard field goal to give his team a 3-point lead. The Bengals led 10-7 at this point. In the fourth quarter, Burrow took the hit from Brian Burns, but the pain might have been worth it, as he returned to witness Chase Brown seal the game with a 17-7 win at MetLife.
