Is Jevon Holland risking long-term health for a short-term gain in this nail-biting Dolphins game?

Going into the second half against the Cardinals with a lead of 6 points, the Dolphins faced an injury scare. Their safety, Jevon Holland, suffered a knee injury in the second quarter, which led to many calling him questionable to return. Even leading up to the clash, Holland was questionable due to a hand injury he suffered against the Patriots.

However, the Dolphins could count themselves fortunate, as Jevon Holland didn’t head to the locker room. Instead, he was evaluated in the blue tent with fans hoping for him to return. Although the Dolphins’ safety didn’t return for the last drive to end the first half, early indications have shown he isn’t questionable.

Holland was captured riding a stationary bike in order to prepare himself to get back in. Well, if he doesn’t return or last the full game, then the Dolphins have a few backups prepared to take his place in the back. Marcus Maye is one of them who can step in if Holland gets injured yet again. The 31-year-old safety has 23 tackles to his name after playing 5 games this season. Elsewhere, the Dolphins also have Elijah Campbell, who could be paired up with Jordan Poyer in the backline.

Although the Dolphins could be waiting for this game to end, to get a full assessment of his knee injury. They did get Tua Tagovailoa back into the starting lineup after his third concussion in the NFL. Even Tyreek Hill, who was limited with a foot injury ahead of the Cardinals clash, started the game on Sunday.

However, the Dolphins may not have questioned Holland’s injury if he wasn’t cleared at the last moment. Coming into the clash, the Dolphins’ safety got clearance amid a hand injury he suffered against the Patriots.

After missing out on the Colts’ clash that the Dolphins lost in Indianapolis, Holland didn’t look like he would be playing a part on Sunday. But to everyone’s surprise, he received medical clearance after needing surgery on his left hand. Giving his insights about the surgery, the Dolphins safety said, “It’s just kind of getting better. The bone itself is solid. They had to pull some stuff apart, like some of the ligaments. That’s pretty much how the human body works. I’m healing as time goes on, so definitely getting better.”

Well, his return to the Phins’ defense was crucial as, leading up to the Cardinals’ clash, CB Kader Kohou and Storm Duck didn’t practice the whole week. While Kohou recovers from a neck injury, his teammate Duck is out with an ankle issue. Running up to the clash, Miami’s DC Anthony Weaver gave his thoughts about the defensive situation. “We’ve played three safeties with Jevon there in the slot. I think Siran Neal is a guy we can use to play in there, potentially you could see some Cam Smith in there. I think we have a bunch of guys that have the skill set to get the job done.”

And the Dolphins could get the job done today as they find themselves leading the Cardinals for most of the game. If a sudden comeback from the visitors or collapse doesn’t happen, then the Dolphins are on their way to winning their 3rd game this season.
