Will letting go of Odell Beckham Jr. haunt the Dolphins after today’s game? Well, it could be, as their WR Jaylen Waddle is set to be sidelined after this week. Just when the Dolphins needed all the firepower to push for the playoffs, Waddle’s injury could put a dent in their postseason ambitions.
Waddle was already limited in practice before facing the Texans in Houston. Shaking off his hamstring injury, Waddle took the gridiron on Sunday. However, tragedy soon took over his time on the field before the second half. During a scuffle in the second quarter, Waddle was the most unfortunate one. When the Texans LB Henry To’oTo’o tried to take down his fellow teammate RB De’Von Achane, Jaylen’s leg got stuck in between.
Think about being present in the wrong place at the wrong time. Waddle went down in agony and had to be helped to the sidelines. As per the latest updates on his knee injury, Waddle is questionable about returning. His day in Houston ended with zero catches on two targets. Talk about being unlucky. In his place, the Phins called upon Grant Dubose to keep Miami in the game.

It hasn’t been a great year for the 26-year-old. After recording more than 1,000 yards in his first three seasons in the NFL, Waddle is going through a possible slump. Over the course of this season, Waddle has only recorded 700 receiving yards on 54 receptions. Although some might say that Tua Tagovailoa’s mid-season concussion could be a reason behind his numbers, Jaylen Waddle needs to find form quickly. He must turn around his 2 TDs, which is astonishing for a player of his calibre. However, before that, he needs to come back strong from his knee injury.
As for the Dolphins, they could be questioning whether their decision to release a three-time Pro Bowler receiver this week was good or not.

This season was supposed to be Odell Beckham Jr’s comeback to his usual Pro Bowler form. But it couldn’t have gone worse for the former Giants star receiver. After spending the majority of the preseason and first 4 games in the NFL on the PUP list, OBJ finally came back. However, his numbers weren’t anywhere near what the Dolphins were hoping for.
OBJ caught just nine catches for 55 yards. He didn’t record a single reception for 4 games. Even his last outing with the Jets saw OBJ rack only 1 reception for 1 yard. So this led to the Dolphins agreeing it was better to part ways mutually. After signing a $3M deal that could have reached $8.25M if certain clauses were activated. The Dolphins have sent OBJ packing out of Miami.
Before the NFL confirmed his official release, OBJ knew what was coming. He took to his Instagram story and wrote, “One thing about me no matter what…ima always land on my feet. God got me (believe that).” As per NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Beckham Jr. could sign for one of his former teams, the Ravens or the Rams. Unlike the Dolphins, both of those teams are set to play in the postseason.

So it wouldn’t be a bad deal for OBJ if he does sign with them. Even his fellow Miami receiver Tyreek Hill posted a cryptic message on his X hours after OBJ’s release was confirmed. “Take advantage of your opportunity.” Now that the Dolphins have lost Jaylen Waddle and Grant DuBose to injuries. They will surely look back and wonder if OBJ was there. He could have at least helped the Phins when called upon.
