With only a few minutes of the first quarter being played between the Saints and Eagles. The home team has already found themselves in a precarious position. Early reports from New Orleans are that Saints OL Erik McCoy is injured after leading the team’s first drive of the week. As the medical team rushed onto the field, McCoy was assisted to reach the tent to receive further treatment.
While the game continued, the broadcasters announced that the Saints center had seemingly suffered a groin injury and was deemed questionable about returning. This came as a huge blow for the home side, as they were looking to make a strong start to their 3rd week of NFL action.

After McCoy vacated the field, the Saints decided to put Lucas Patrick at center while Olisaemeka Udoh was shifted to left guard. However, we don’t know whether it will stay the same for the remainder of the game. The Saints were already short on their offensive line depth, and after this injury, those concerns have seemingly risen to greater heights. Although the starting unit managed to help, the team put on a great show early into the season.
It might not continue if injuries start to mount at the frontline of New Orleans. Well, for McCoy, he was one of the key players coming into the match-up against the Eagles. Since getting drafted as a rookie in 2019, he has been a reliable player for the Saints, having played 76 games in his 5-year tenure at the club. But new players who were added to the roster this offseason might have put his position in New Orleans in limbo.
Is Erik McCoy’s position in jeopardy at New Orleans?
As the Saints decided to add Taliese Fuaga and Lucas Patrick to their roster while deciding to utilize Trevor Penning as the right tackle. McCoy doesn’t seem to be scared about losing his position on the team. “I don’t say that I’m unsettled. I try not to be unsettled in any situation,” says the last season’s Pro Bowler.

Expressing his thoughts about the new additions, “It’ll be different but I believe in all the guys that we have and I believe in the talent that we have in the room. And I believe the offensive system will put us in the best place possible to go out there and execute and to ultimately be a really good offensive line.” Well, the Saints indeed started with a bang after beating the Panthers 47-10 and the Cowboys 44-19.
