Can the Browns survive without D'Onta Foreman, or is their season already doomed?

The Cleveland Browns‘ are short of a player after their last preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. The running back, D’Onta Foreman injured his ribs in the 2nd quarter. Back-to-back blows for Brown! Let’s explain. He got fit in time to play preseason after sustaining a neck injury in the practice camp a few weeks back. Time’s ticking! The season is not very far.

The RB landed straight on his chest after a defender’s tackle. Not showing any movement, his teammates took him to the sidelines. He was seen walking slowly to the medical camp. This rib injury could rule him out for weeks. This is a bolt to the locker room. A big one!

The Saturday injury brought back memories of his neck injury in the punt drills during practice. D’Onta Foreman suffered a direct blow to the neck, after which they had to move him to a hospital in Roanoke, Virginia, via a helicopter. During the medical evaluation, he showed movement in his neck. The negative X-rays and CT scans were a big relief. As a caution, the RB missed the preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers. The bigger the setback, the greater the comeback! In the second preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings, he displayed his game skills.

While his rushing game was top-notch with 10 carries for 18 rushing yards and a touchdown, his receiving was also on point with 5 receptions for 46 receiving yards. In the 1st quarter, he made a touchdown from the 1-yard line. The RB gained 27 yards running through the defense in the 2nd quarter. After having some good plays, he said, “I feel like in those situations I got to get in there. Just me with my stature and my frame, me being a bigger back it’s like I take those personal.

This is the last thing the Browns wanted. Their key RBs are already struggling with injuries. Let’s take a look at their running back situations.

Their premier running back Nick Chubb suffered a knee injury during the week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2023 season. While the RB did some individual drills in practice camp, he stayed away from team plays. Currently, on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, uncertainty looms large on his comeback.

Another RB, Nyheim Hines, is also on the PUP list. The jet ski accident forced him to miss the 2023 season, but the Browns intended to boost the team’s offense by adding him. Though Head Coach Kevin Stefanski was optimistic about RB’s fitness, till August 2024, there is no update about his return.

Pierre Strong Jr. is also doubtful because of a rib contusion injury. He sustained it during the practice camp a few days back. After the RB complained of shortness of breath, they immediately took him to the University Hospital. The tests didn’t show any major injury. He is one of their fastest players, and the locker room is expecting a comeback before the season starts.

Browns will play their first game against Dallas Cowboys on September 8. With doubts over D’Onta Brown and other RBs, HC will have to act fast. The Dawg Pound needs him to sort these problems to set the locker room in motion.
