Did Carlton Davis III's missed interception cost the Lions the game? What's your take on his performance?

The LionsRams game has been a nail-biter through and through. After a lot of struggles, the teams managed to tie the game and Matthew Stafford got one more chance to score but failed. Stafford’s pass was intended for Cooper Kupp, but he overthrew it and paid the price. The pass was nearly intercepted by Carlton Davis, but he dropped it.

However, his attempt to pick Matthew Stafford off came with a problem. He leaped to reel the ball in his hands but dropped it and injured himself in the process. Watson dropped the catch midair, fell flat on his belly, and most probably hurt himself. He looked like he was frustrated over the dropped pass and was slow to get up.

The Lions’ staff gathered around him and there’s no clear verdict about an injury yet. This came when the game was tied 20-20 and Matthew Stafford had all the pressure on his shoulders to get the down and some more on the first and 10 play with 12 seconds remaining in the game. Safe to say that Stafford didn’t succeed. But despite the failed effort, Davis did make some considerable contributions to the game.

This is his first year with the Lions after the Buccaneers traded him to get a day-two pick in the 2024 draft. In tonight’s game, the cornerback came out with 10 total tackles, out of which 6 were solo. But there was another Carlton Davis III highlight in the game, and he didn’t look good on coverage. This game allowed Davis to go against his former teammate, WR Tyler Johnson, who plays for the Rams now.

Johnson completely obliterated the Lions’ cornerback when he came to a fast stop as Davis was tailing him. When Johnson stopped, Davis couldn’t control his motion and slipped. That allowed the Rams receiver to make a huge 63-yard play. The Lions’ defense was amazing, to say the least, and that’s not the only major play that Carlton Davis III came up with.

The former Super Bowl winner couldn’t just let the Rams’ offense slide. Another major pass disruption from Davis when 6:35 remained in the second quarter. It was a fourth-and-four situation so naturally, Stafford was getting a bit itchy. But it was almost like Davis could read through Stafford’s mind.

The Rams Super Bowl-winning QB took a couple of steps back, surveyed the field, and launched the ball to Cooper Kupp, who couldn’t stop the cornerback on his tail. Davis interjected but dropped the ball this time around too and was visibly upset about it. Hopefully, he hasn’t suffered a major injury and will be playing in the next game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. What do you think about the Lions’ defense against the Rams?
