This isn’t the news that the Saints would have wanted to hear. In a game where nothing less than a win could save the Saints season. They have suffered a huge setback on their offense. Their running back, Alvin Kamara, who was having a sensational 2024, left the game because of a freak injury. And it came at the worst possible time.
Before his injury, Kamara just caught a one-handed TD in the red zone. That 21-yard TD pass from Cedric Wilson Jr helped the Saints narrow the gap to 10 points. However, moments later, Kamara was seen struggling on the gridiron. He didn’t even touch the ball on the next play and ended up leaving the pitch. Fans in New Orleans wondered what could have happened to their star running back.
Well, it soon came to light that Kamara had injured his groin while trying to score his team’s only TD. While the Superdome expected him to come back, the Saints gave them the worst possible news. Kamara was declared questionable for returning because of his groin injury. This would be a massive loss for the Saints, as Kamara was playing exceptionally before leaving the game. He had four catches for 56 yards, including a TD in the third quarter.

Kamara also had five carries for 12 yards before his day in Orleans ended in the second half. Now, the Saints would surely miss their star running back, who had 938 rushing yards this season. Kamara averaged 4.2 rushing yards on 223 carries over the course of this regular season. Well, he also had 6 rushing TDs and 1 receiving TD before heading to the sidelines on Sunday.

And unfortunately, the 29-year-old isn’t the only player that the Saints will be missing, at least in their next week.
Saints injuries pile up as Alvin Kamara leaves New Orleans early
Before entering today’s match-up against the Commanders, the home team already had quite a few inactive on their list. One of those star names was QB Derek Carr, who remains out with a concussion he suffered against the Giants in week 14. Their third-year LB D’Marco Jackson was also on the list of inactive because of an ankle injury. He also suffered this injury last week while taking on the Giants during the second quarter.

But wait, there’s more. Their rookie receiver, Bub Means, was also out with an ankle issue. Among other injuries that the Saints had to deal with were those of RB Jordan Mims and WR Mason Tipton. And there goes the offense. The Saints were missing out on defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon and defensive tackle Khristian Boyd. Well, their absence did hurt the Saints on Sunday. As they narrowly lost to the Commanders by 19-20.
However, the Saints were almost outplayed in every corner. They gave up 326 total yards while only putting up 245 themselves. And after their loss, the Saints lose further ground in their race to make the playoffs. With a record of 5-9 after 15 weeks, it doesn’t look like the Saints have enough fuel left in their tank to reach the postseason.
