“I embrace my role as a protector.” These were Austin Jackson’s memorable statements after becoming a lifesaver. Everyone knows that the man is extremely humble, and the proof of this is the fact that he is a blood marrow donor. He gave his bone marrow to his younger sister, who was suffering from a life-threatening condition. But what exactly happened? Why don’t we jump into the context of the transplant?

Well, rumors about this are all over the place. And this rumor is actually true as in 2019 the man did save his sister Autumn’s life. And due to all this, the siblings have become pretty close in real life. As Autumn stated, “My brother is my best friend.” 

Austin Jackson put a hold on his career for this bone marrow transplant which was a huge risk. Everybody thought whether the man could come back or not. But this hold never harmed his career. Although he did need some time to recover and play again. But his spot on the team never changed.

After the transplant, Autumn Jackson has greatly recovered from her condition. She has even stated, “For me, it was amazing because we are so close and I always felt like we’re the same person in a way. I think it was beautiful that he was truly a perfect match for me.” But what exactly was her medical condition?

What happened to Autumn Jackson?

Well, Autumn Jackson actually had Diamond Blackfan Anemia. This is actually a genetic disorder that prevents her bone marrow from producing red blood cells. Due to this enough oxygen was not able to reach her body which if not treated could have even led to her death. Only a Bone Marrow transplant was an option for her and generally, the bone marrow getting match is pretty rare.

But the luck was on the side of Autumn as his brother’s bone marrow matched with her. Austin Jackson gave 12 blood tests and fortunately, every test came back positive. After a lot of procedures, doctors discover that he can be the perfect donor. And everyone knows which brother would not save his younger sisters?

The DT Austin Jackson also had the same review as when he was asked about the situation at a college event. He stated, “I feel like everyone would’ve done it for their little sister or sibling.“

The best part of this situation was that the Miami Dolphins were in full support of the DT. Knowing that he would be out still, they were really happy for the family. With all the support and everything going in his way, the man took the big decision.

Everything went well during the transplant and Autumn is quite healthy right now. They both occasionally even share pictures with each other over social media.
