Is George Pickens' eye black message a bold statement or just plain disrespectful to the game?

The SNF game between Steelers and Cowboys was very competitive. Or you can say aggressive. Players on both sides wanted a win. And they fought aggressively on the gridiron. However, Steelers’ WR George Pickens has come again in the news. That too for all the wrong reasons.

The NFL is reviewing the game footage with the WR in focus. Complaints were made against Pickens who wore his eye black with the message ‘Always F—— Open.’ It was shown to millions which has irked the league.

When George Pickens was asked about the controversy after Thursday’s practice session, he got angry and told the reporters, “Never seen the rule before. Have you seen it before?” He might have thought that no one would remember Cam Heyward in 2015. The RB wrote his father’s nickname, Craig “Ironhead” Heyward, after which a controversy started.

There’s a famous quote, “You can wake a person who is sleeping, but you cannot wake a person who is pretending to sleep.” Similarly, not in a mood to accept his mistake, the WR had a reply ready to serve, “Years ago, when I wasn’t in the league? No.” Though he is not acknowledging yet, he might not be able to refute these charges when the league starts disciplinary action.

Steelers‘ locker room is divided. While some say that the receiver was right, some don’t have any idea.

Have an interesting take?

Head Coach Mike Tomlin recently talked to ESPN about the week 5 game. When he was asked about the WR’s controversy, he claimed that he was unaware and said, “I don’t know what messaging you’re talking about.” It’s clear. The team wants to focus on winning more.

Offensive coordinator Arthur Smith has made big plans for George Pickens. He is using his old time-tested approach of picking his players according to the rivals. The OC claimed that using Pickens less was his strategy against Cowboys as other were doing their role well. But the WR has to work on his conduct.

Against the Cowboys, he got into a fight with cornerback Jourdan Lewis when the final whistle was blown. It appeared that Lewis yelled at Pickens, after which the latter took his rival’s mask. Later, the CB took a jibe at the WR by calling him ‘weak’.
