Specifically, in 2021, he broke his left collarbone. He again got reinjured in his left collarbone in 2022 and missed six games. His history of injuries didn’t really stop there. In 2023, he got his left fibula fractured. “I only had two broken bones, I’ve never had any knee or back issues. I think the timeline just sucked more than anything, just kind of early on in those games and missing time,” Shough said.

He has also taken lessons from the injuries and learned how to move on the field later in his career. “I didn’t take very many sacks because I was more aware of my check. I was more aware of how can I protect my body, and I think that was crucial for me. Rather than trying to just truck somebody on second or first down. You don’t need to do that. Third down, fourth down, let’s get it, and then let’s keep moving,” said Shough. This certainly gives a highlight that despite the consistent setbacks in Shough’s career, he kept coming back even stronger. And he earned a reputation for toughness, as he got selected by the New Orleans Saints with the 40th pick. This makes him a true underdog story for the 2025 NFL Draft.
