The Cleveland Browns have just not been having the best season so far. Stuck at the bottom of AFC North at 1-5, things are not looking good for their campaign. Makes sense this is when they’d decide to abandon their playoff hopes and start planning for next season. Consequently, the gems in their squad have got to go, they’ll build a newer, better team next year. Or at least that’s the thinking.

Cue Amari Cooper, former round 1 draft pick and star wide receiver for the Browns. Of course, the Buffalo Bills were eager to pick him up and pad out their wide receiver roster. And they paid a pretty penny for it too, sending the Browns a third-round pick in a pick swap, as reported by Ian Rapoport.

Josh Allen has been having a decent, if unremarkable, year so far. Despite that, they’ve managed a 4-2 record. But Allen will need an offense he can rely on, he can’t be a one-man show. But they’ve been trudging under the weight of injuries. For a moment during their Texans game, it looked like even Allen would be out with a concussion, but thankfully, it was a false scare. Wide receiver Khalil Shakir and running backs James Cook and Darrynton Evans are all injured, with Shakir and Cook questionable.

Amari Cooper’s a great choice with that kind of injury depleted team. He’s been remarkably consistent throughout his career. He’s had 7 1000-yard plus seasons since he first came onto the scene in 2015. That’s nearly 10,000 through his career (9,736 at present) with 62 touchdown receptions. He’s had 6 dropped passes this season though, but let’s hope that was a quarterback shortcoming and not on him personally. The Buffalo Bills will be expecting great things from him.

What went wrong with the Browns?

What’s your perspective on:

Did the Browns make a smart move trading Amari Cooper, or is this a huge mistake?

Have an interesting take?

Right from the start, the Cleveland Browns have never looked comfortable on-field this season. While their defense has served them well, their offense has limped along. They have yet to manage to pass the 20 point mark, and their gum-toothed offense is made worse by their tendency to commit a high number of penalties at just the wrong moments.

Their expensive quarterback, beyond all the legal troubles, has had a weak season too. In 6 games he’s already been sacked 31 times, and he’s just not hitting those long passes. We don’t have a final word on whether Watson’s staying with the team, but he’s signed on with them until 2026.

The Browns paid $19.2 million of Cooper’s salary this year, but was it all worth it for the 3rd round pick they bought at the price? We’ll have to find out next year, until then, the Browns will just have to hope that Watson’s game sees improvement and that a more comprehensive offensive unit can be put together.
