The end of an era. Bill Belichick is no longer a part of the New England Patriots, as his exit is reportedly confirmed. But, as Belichick said, he will “forever remain a Patriot”, many are recalling his era, along with Tom Brady. While some analysts are recalling the day of his entry into the team and how he replaced another legendary coach, Pete Carroll, NFL analyst Nick Wright looks back at Belichick’s career as the team’s head coach and the sharp similarities he has with Carroll.
Is Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll’s journey similar?
In the latest episode of “First Things First,” NFL analyst Nick Wright and his co-hosts discussed Bill Belichick and his era after the head coach’s exit news confirmation. He discussed how Belichick’s journey includes initial setbacks, a bold choice to stick with young quarterback Tom Brady, and the subsequent success of the Patriots.

Nick Wright also drew a parallel between Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll, emphasizing how Belichick succeeded the latter. Carroll’s tenure in New England wasn’t as successful, and after their split, both coaches took different paths.
“Bill Belichick had every beat of greatness within his career like what you’d see in a movie. … Tom Brady & Belichick came together to reach heights that neither one of them would’ve approached on their own.”@getnickwright reacts to Belichick leaving Patriots after 24 seasons pic.twitter.com/6FkuJkRxnA

They two became the longest-tenured coaches, Belichick with the Pats (24 seasons), and Carroll with Seahawks (14 seasons). During their career journey, the two etched their names in the legendary coaches of the league. And also how the two stuck with their quarterbacks (Tom Brady & Russell Wilson), to create some histories in the league.
Belichick once said about Carroll, before their clash in a game in 2020, “The fact that we’re still coaching and our paths are still crossing, I guess that means we’ve done pretty well or somebody would have replaced us,” and he has a ton of respect for Carroll.

Not only this, they also have one similarity, and that is their new update on coaching. On one hand, Bill Belichick is “mutually” parting ways with the Patriots; on the other hand, Carroll is also out of the Hawks, a shocking move made by the franchise.

The end of an era after 15 years!
The Seahawks said goodbye to Pete Carroll as their head coach on Wednesday, ending his almost 15-year tenure in that role. The team owner, Jody Allen, clarified that Carroll wasn’t fired but is transitioning from being an HC to serving as an advisor. Carroll, in his emotional news conference on Wednesday, expressed that his coaching journey has always been about having fun and praised the players he worked with.
Carroll was brought to the Hawks from USC in 2010, marking the start of the Seahawks’ most successful period. Two years later, Seattle drafted QB Russell Wilson, and shortly after, the two celebrated their first Super Bowl championship in 2014. And now, his and Belichick’s eras have ended with their long-tenured teams.
