Mark Davis waited until the last day of the NFL trade to take this massive step. The Las Vegas Raiders’ owner fired coach Josh McDaniels and GM Dave Ziegler from their positions on Tuesday night, shocking the whole NFL world. Recently, even Pat McAfee commented on the situation and expressed the need for the urgent step.

The Raiders have been struggling this season with multiple issues. First, it was for the quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who sustained a back injury and is now benched for the next matchup against the New York Giants. Now it’s the team’s coach, McDaniels, whose sacking hyped the Raiders bringing them and the team’s ex-coach into a list of firing history of the league.

In a recent episode of ‘The Pat McAfee Show,’ McAfee shared thirteen names of those who were fired from the NFL teams during their time. These 13 names also included the latest firing of Josh McDaniels, who had a four-year, $10 million per season deal from the Raiders. The former NFL punter highlighted the names of Hugo Bezok (1938, 3 games), Joe Collier (1968, 2 games), Lane Kiffin (2000, 4 games), George Allen (1978, 2 preseason games), Jack Patera (1982, 2 games), Bobby Petrino 2007, 13 games), Dennis Allen (2014, 4 games), Joe Philbin (2015, 5 games), and Hue Jackson (2016, 8 games), as the early fired names.

Moreover, Urban Meyer (2021, 13 games), Frank Reich (2022, 9 games), Matt Rhule (2022, 5 games), and Josh McDaniels (2023, 8 games), were also on the list of the early fired staff in the league. Interestingly, this list consists of three staff (Kiffin, Allen, and McDaniels), who were fired from the Raiders, and the rest are from different teams.

Speaking on McDaniels’ situation, the 36-year-old sports analyst said that Mark Davis and the Raiders have shown a good sign to their fan base as he quoted their emotions, stating, “We ain’t putting up with this anymore.” Furthermore, he also mentioned that it will be worth noting who will take up his place, and perhaps Antonio Pierce will be given a real opportunity to lead his team and see how they perform.

The linebacker coach Antonio Pierce was elevated to interim head coach soon after the firing of Josh McDaniels by the Raiders owner Mark Davis. McDaniels and GM Dave Ziegler served the team for less than a year after being traded from the New England Patriots. When asked about this move of firing two staff so early, Davis said, “Unfortunately, I had great hopes for Josh and Dave. It just seemed we were going in the wrong direction.

He added, “So, with the trade deadline, I just felt it was time to make a change, time to make a move.” Furthermore, as he brought Pierce, the 68-year-old owner showed his faith in the changes, and stated, “Seemed like the adjustment we need at this time. I was impressed. He understands the culture of the Raiders, and that’s important to me. I felt very good about it.
