Well, we all know Patrick Mahomes as the Chiefs‘ superstar QB with 3 Super Bowls already under his belt. But, it seems like his baseball career speaks for itself and transcends boundaries. Mahomes’ was an exceptional pitcher while he played for the Whitehouse High School. The viral clip on the historical win of the Whitehouse Wildcats against Michael Kopech still storms social media. But what exactly did Patrick do to ensure the Cats owned the Tigers?
On 7th August, Baseball Greatest Moments posted a throwback to Mahomes’ incredible record of 2-1 against the Mount Pleasant Tigers. And the caption says it all, “Patrick Mahomes once tossed a 16-strikeout no-hitter while in high school. Oh, the losing pitcher in that game? White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech.” The clip further showed how he made the hitters blind to his pitching. Although Grubbs successfully tied the game at 1-1, Mahomes struck out the next two Tigers hitters ending up in a 2-1 for the Cats. With Mahomes finally winning the game by allowing only four walks to Kopech’s team, the rivalry between the two was revealed soon.

“For some reason, we really hated their team, and I don’t know if their team hated our team back,” was what Michael said in an interview. But the former White Sox pitcher also disclosed his rivalry with Mahomes had a friendly touch, “We really decided that we wanted to beat Whitehouse more than any other team we played. We were able to really compete but kind of build a friendship out of everything because we knew that we wanted to compete at the next level. It was much deeper than a high school baseball game for both of us.”
It seems like Patrick was equally respected on the baseball pitch too. Per reports, the Chiefs’ QB has a 42-39 WL record with 452 strikeouts in 709 innings pitched. And his 16 strikeout-no-hitter was a major part of his records. It looks like the Chiefs’ QB did set a landmark in baseball at a very young age.

Initially, it was Pat Mahomes, father of Patrick, who urged his son to go for baseball, “He threw 97 mph on the mount, so I always thought he was gonna be a baseball player.” Being an MLB legend himself, elder Mahomes was an inspiration for Patrick’s journey in baseball. Mahomes Sr. was an 11-year big leaguer who pitched with 6 teams from 1992 to 2003. Although Mahomes chose the NFL as a career over MLB, his love for baseball is evident from his tie-up with the Kansas City Royals. In 2020, the Chief’s QB became the youngest part owner of the major professional sports franchise, “I’m honored to become a part owner of the Kansas City Royals,” per Mahomes. But, it seems like his time to dominate the gridiron is nearing.
As the pre-seasons are already on, we can expect the 28-year-old to rile up his team for another Super Bowl. Will Mahomes be able to maintain his dominance on the Lombardi Trophy? Let us know in the comments below.
