It’s all hinged on Tommy DeVito. After two of the quarterbacks went down with season-ending injuries, DeVito had done a good job of leading the Giants. The New York Giants took on the New Orleans Saints. However, things came to a head as DeVito crashed to the ground, resulting in a scuffle between the two teams.
The hit looked brutal enough to activate the league’s concussion check protocol. The Giants’ fanbase held their collective breaths. What would it mean for the team if their third quarterback was also lost to injury?

With less than a minute left for the first half to end, DeVito rushed to pick up some yards for the Giants and inch closer to the end zone. Just then, the Saints’ cornerback Isaac Yiadom delivered a blow that sent the rookie quarterback crashing to the ground. He lay motionless for a few moments before sitting back up on the ground. This could also be because he suffered seven sacks in the game!

Within a few seconds after the hit, DeVito’s teammates got into the opponent defender’s face and a melee ensued. The referees had to physically intervene to break up the fight and prevent things from going bad to worse. Although a flag was thrown initially, the referees confirmed that there would be no penalty, and the hit was legal. Meanwhile, DeVito jogged to the blue medical tent to be examined.
The team was 5-8 going into the game against the Saints, and DeVito had done a remarkable job of carrying them in the absence of its two veteran QBs. Backup QB Tyrod Taylor then walked in to finish the drive. DeVito missed the final four offensive snaps of the second quarter due to the concussion check. Luckily for Giants fans, the QB was cleared and returned to the field in the next quarter. But he failed to turn things around in the second half.

At the end of the first half, the game could have swung in either team’s favor with the Saints having a slight edge at 7-6. But then as the second half rolled on, and an injured DeVito played despite the brutal blow, things started to fall apart. The Giants failed to score any points in the entire second half, while the Saints raked up 17 more points.
It seemed like the “DeVito magic” had finally come to a painful end. The Giants had momentum on their side as they walked into the Caesars Superdrom with three back-to-back wins. And that too with a rookie quarterback! With today’s loss, the hopes of the team making it to the playoffs were dashed.
