In news that will bring a smile to not only New York Jets fans but the entire NFL world, Aaron Rodgers has made some serious progress! After being sidelined for 3 months with an injury that experts said would see him ruled out for the entire 2023 season, Rodgers has done the unthinkable. While we can’t expect him on the gridiron immediately, it seems like it’s going to be much sooner than people had anticipated.

If he returns to the field before January, he will have officially broken the record of Cam Akers. The Minnesota Vikings player had set the NFL record by returning for action just 5 months after suffering an Achilles injury.

Ari Meirov took to X to share a video that is sure to excite everyone. The video was captioned, “First look at Aaron Rodgers back on the practice field…” and it shows the 4x NFL MVP on a practice field talking to two people. No crutches or even padded walking boots in sight. You can almost hear Jets fans celebrating.

This comes as a pleasant surprise since just a day ago on The Pat McAfee Show he had outlined his return checklist. He had said that his decision to return would be based on two factors: the Jets’ standing in the playoff race and his health. But things look hopeful as the team even moved him from the injured reserve list, which is an extremely positive sign. So, will we be able to watch him in action before Christmas Day?

When can we see Rodgers on the field, in action?

Rodgers will turn 40 on December 2, and making such a fast recovery at his age is an unimaginable feat in itself. However, head coach Robert Saleh has shared some details on the matter. For the near future, it looks like he will be restricted to light drills. Saleh told reporters that while he cannot get into the specifics or outline his path to action, he can tell them this: “But for Aaron, what he will be doing in practice is no different than what he would be doing in Field Three — as you all watch it.”

His return would also be dependent on doctors giving him the go-ahead, which still hasn’t happened yet. But taking him off the injured reserve list means there is the possibility that he could be activated after the stipulated time of 21 days. “Aaron is not going to do anything to put himself in harm’s way.” To reduce the risk of aggravating his injury, he has been cleared for functional activity for now, but not for contact.
