The decision to allow the trade that sent Bryce Young to the Panthers may come back to haunt the Bears. Young was drafted by the Panthers before the season began in exchange for a trade with the Bears. Today, he showed no mercy on them as the Bears took on the Panthers in the Week 10 game. As the game progressed, Young outclassed the Bears’ undrafted rookie, Tyson Bagent.
While the Bears largely went toe-to-toe with the Panthers, eventually nicking the win, Bagent failed to keep up with his counterpart. Although, in the end, the Bears had the final smile, Young’s success later on in the season will build to their frustration.
Bryce Young vs. Tyson Bagent: a statistical breakdown
In a rare occurrence, both of the quarterbacks were without touchdowns. But other than that, Bagent was beaten in all areas by the Panthers rookie. Young accounted for a 21-38 for 185 yards compared to Bagent’s 20-33 for 162 yards. But that’s not the end. Young also rushed for 18 yards with 3 carries, third most out of anybody on the field, and nearly as much as the Panthers’ running back, Chuba Hubbard.
In the end, the Panthers fell short of the Bears with 3 points, ruining Young’s effort and Ihmir Smith-Marsette’s 79-yard touchdown. But the decision to allow Young to join the franchise may still be hard to digest if the QB sees success in the later stages of the season.
