The Vikings could have won Thursday night football against the Rams. However, the last foul play, by Rams LB Byron Young, stole the opportunity from them. And it turned out to be even more devastating when the referees missed that play. As obvious, after this incident, the Minnesota team, including quarterback Sam Darnold and head coach Kevin O’Connell would be frustrated with the no-call penalty in the game. But it didn’t seem so!
A curious reporter asked quarterback Sam Darnold about his stance on this facemask episode in a post-game press conference. Surprisingly, the quarterback called out his and team’s mistake, saying, “It’s you know, I thought we could have done a lot. A lot of ourselves in the situation that we were in, the penalty before that. So, we just kind of continued to play better and not put ourselves in that situation to begin with.”
According to Darnold, it’s not just that foul play was the main reason behind the team’s loss. The actual reason behind it is the Vikings didn’t perform that better, to avoid such situations in the final moment of the game. And guess what? Even the team’s head coach, Kevin O’Connell feels the same.

When a reporter asked Kevin O’Connell the same question, he broke his silence on the officiating mistake, and said, “It looked like he got a pretty good amount of facemask there.” However, skipping to comment on it, the coach continued, “I’m not going to get into a call or no-call. I told our team, officiating and all that stuff, for us to talk about that, for us to seek comfort in that is not how we’re going to respond to this. I really don’t have a comment on it.”
The Vikings lost their second game of this season 20-30 against the Rams. However, Los Angeles will not be in a completely celebratory mood for sure.

During the last few seconds of the Thursday game, Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold was throwing a pass to his target receiver. But, at that moment, he was face-masked by Rams LB, Byron Young. Now this could have been an opportunity for Minnesota. They would have gained 15 yards and a chance to level the score with a TD and 2-point conversion. This would have been possible if the referees, who were standing behind Darnold, had put a penalty on this play.

But unfortunately, the refs missed it, causing the Rams to win. However, that’s not just the end of the story. With this, a concern has been generated for Young, as according to reports, he will now be fined for it. And how much will he have to pay? Well, as per the NFL rulebook, a face masking violation can lead to fines ranging from $11,255 to $16,883.
