The San Francisco 49ers lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the last Super Bowl. They were indeed upset but fueled to make a comeback and win the trophy the next time. But they are arguably failing, as the franchise is just an injury-plagued team sitting at the bottom of the NFC West with just 5 wins and 7 losses.

For the 49ers, this season feels like history repeating itself. Well, at least veteran analyst Mike Florio thinks so. During a recent episode of Sunday Night Football on NBC, the 59-year-old said, “This year is just like 2020 – the year after they lost to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl the first time, around too many injuries, it reaches a critical mass and you can never get your guys healthy at the same time to go out and really get on a run.”

Hence, according to Florio, Kyle Shanahan’s team is suffering from Déjà vu, as this year too, after losing to the Chiefs, the team is struggling to keep its players healthy. The sports commentator also addressed Kyle Shanahan’s recent remarks on Christian McCaffrey’s performance after his return to action, explaining why the star running back hasn’t looked like his usual self.

Hence, he pointed out that missing training camp, preseason, and the first eight weeks of the season have taken its toll. McCaffrey, who was the Offensive Player of the Year last year with 21 touchdowns, could end 2024 with zero touchdowns unless he returns for the final game.

Nevertheless, now the wear and tear of playing deep into January year after year is catching up to the veteran core, and it feels like their window might be closing. Now, with the NFC standings tight, the 49ers are hanging by a thread. According to Florio, their only real chance lies in the seventh seed, but being two and a half games behind the Commanders with just five games to go makes that climb steep.

So, it’s quite possible the team won’t be able to make it to the playoffs, especially because their key players are on the injury list.

Kyle Shanahan faces roadblocks with injuries to his team!

Just a couple of days ago, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan informed the media that their star player Christian McCaffrey is placed on injured reserve. He revealed that McCaffrey had suffered a PCL injury, that means he might miss the rest of the season. But he isn’t alone!

The reality is, other players such as Aaron Banks, Jordan Elliott, Deommodore Lenoir, Nick Bosa, Trent Williams, Dre Greenlaw, Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles, Chris Conley, Kevin Givens, and Renardo Green are all questionable at the moment. Earlier Brock Purdy too was placed on this injured reserve list, but he came back for the Bills game, eventually losing the game with a huge blowout 35-10.

As Mike Florio earlier suggested, Kyle Shanahan’s path has become like Andy Reid’s. He can only succeed if he goes to another team. So, is this the time for a goodbye?
