Is Robert Kraft just jealous of Jerry Jones' unmatched money-making prowess in the NFL?

It’s a clash of clans between Jerry Jones and Robert Kraft and for a while now, the Patriots owner hasn’t been able to get the edge. What’s this clash about? Well, it’s a ‘publicity war’ that Robert Kraft, despite all his success, has been unable to capitalize on. But what makes Jerry Jones have the edge over the owner of a 6x Super Bowl-winning team?

Jerry Jones lives for “drama.” It’s like he’s feeding us bits and pieces of Cowboys’ information to keep us on the edge. The CeeDee Lamb deal got done and the Cowboys are the biggest news again. They still were when Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons, and Lamb didn’t have a deal in their hands. Mike Florio had a chat about this with Devin McCourty.

“I read Jerry Jones’ testimony and it’s clear from Jerry Jones’ testimony, this is what he lives for. The conflict, the drama, and all of the exposure and interest that comes from it, not the winning and the losing. It’s ‘paying attention to my team, pay attention to me, pay attention to us and they’ve managed to be one of the most popular teams in all of sports even though they don’t have the result for three decades,” Mike Florio said on Pro Football Talk.

There’s an interesting stat that Florio pointed out earlier. The Dallas Cowboys played 16 of 30 games that led to the Super Bowl, ranging from the NFL Championship which turned into the NFC Championship after the merger. It’s been 3 decades since a Super Bowl win and the Cowboys are still the most talked about team in the league. Every time they’re on, it’s prime-time television.

Now that’s the opportunity that Robert Kraft couldn’t capitalize on. Devin McCourty perfectly summarized the downfall of the New England Patriots post Tom Brady’s exit. It’s gotten so bad now that the Pats only have one Thursday game this season. That’s because the Pats’ organizational philosophy forces them to adhere to a no-drama policy.

Speaking of drama, Florio had to say this about Jerry Jones’ Cowboys: “They’ll embrace the Dak drama and the Micah Parsons drama because that’s going to guarantee that people pay attention regardless of what they [Cowboys] do. They could go 5-12 this year and that’s still going to be something that draws tons of attention and dollars in a roundabout way that makes you more money.”

So why is Kraft failing to size up to Jerry Jones? And most importantly, is there animosity between the billionaires?

What’s your perspective on:

Robert Kraft and Jerry Jones might not like each other

The problem, per Devin McCourty, is that Robert Kraft is missing out on all the drama. The contract situation with Lamb, Prescott, and Parsons turned all eyes on them at all times and Jones made sure to get an exhibition out of it. Their looming contracts were and still are the most talked-about stories in the off-season.

“They tried their hardest to always take away bringing the story on to yourself. Contract disputes, all of that stuff, they fought their b—- to not have that,” McCourty said while pointing out that the Pats haven’t been given any prime-time games this year. But things are different for the Cowboys since they have SNF and MNF games in their schedule.

Perhaps that’s one of the reasons that adds fuel to the fire between Jones and Kraft. Despite having more Super Bowl wins in a more competitive era, Kraft just couldn’t keep up. Back in 2022, Florio pointed out something interesting about the billionaire owners of the most storied franchise in the league.

“There’s a jealousy there. Although, you have to act like you’re above being jealous of anyone when you’re a multibillionaire. But they still they still size each other up. And Jones is in the Hall of Fame. Kraft isn’t.”

Maybe pursuing clout is not Robert Kraft’s way of doing things. He’s proven his track record in the past, but this is a different era. However, it’s still astonishing how Jerry Jones found an infinite money-making glitch despite America’s team struggling to win any significant games.
