Weigh your options and then decide. Certainly a wise piece of advice. However, how long do you wait until someone finally makes a decision? The NFL free agency is rolling in action, but when it comes to the QB land, everything stands still. And there’s one person controlling the movements– Aaron Rodgers.
So far, the two top QBs who have yet to find home are Russell Wilson and Rodgers. Interestingly, the latter seems to hold the answer to where Wilson will go. You see, the former New York Jets superstar may be 41 years old, but with his lengthy resume and experience, he is a top target for not just one but three teams so far– New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings, and Pittsburgh Steelers.
They have all put out their numbers on the table. Front offices are sweating, fanbases are spiraling, but Rodgers? Well, it seems like he is taking his sweet time in deciding where he wants to go next. Stuck in the loop of it all is Russell Wilson and his NFL future.

Here’s the deal, after becoming a free agent, rumors have linked Rodgers as a top contender for Kevin O’Connell’s Vikings with Sam Darnold’s move to Seattle. But the Steelers and the Giants are not stepping down yet. Now, that’s where things get pretty messy for all these teams. You see, the Vikings are well known for making their QB decisions as per their head coach.
But in Rodger’s case, first, at 41-years of age, he is not a long-term viable option. Then his numbers have only dipped in the last few years. And then he is also asking a deal like Sam clicking at $100 million/ 3 years.
And now, while Rodgers is waiting for the Vikings’ decision, the Steelers and the Giants are waiting for Rodgers to answer. Diabolical. However, we can assume the New York team is already out of the race. Upsetting!
If you’re wondering why, well, while circling Rodgers, the Giants seemingly also marked others targets. On Thursday, they first hosted the veteran QB Joe Flacco in East Rutherford. Next, they scheduled 10-time Pro Bowler Wilson’s meeting. Translation? They are ready to move on if they don’t hear something from Aaron soon, even if Wilson left the Big Apple empty handed.
This update comes a week after Mike Garafalo of NFL Network mentioned that New York “had good conversations with Aaron Rodgers and have let him know they believe he and WR Malik Nabers would vibe well.” But nah, looks like the ex-Jets QB is no more interested in the Giants.
So far, the Giants only have Tommy DeVito filling up the QB post. And while they are planning on bringing more players at that position soon, a veteran voice like Aaron’s can only help, even if he is not a long-term stay.
What’s your perspective on:
Are the Giants delusional for waiting on Rodgers, or do they have a secret plan up their sleeve?
Have an interesting take?
But the patience for all three teams is running low as Dianna Russini of The Athletic stated on the Gojo and Golic show, “Yeah, we’re waiting. Everybody is waiting, everyone’s frustrated. I can tell you that. I feel like the New York Giants are almost at a point right now where they’re just ignoring it and they’re just trying to find another plan in case this doesn’t work out.”
Florio on the Aaron Rodgers Saga: “Ultimately, it comes down to what Rodgers wants, and what the Vikings want. Are the Steelers and Giants leverage for the Vikings? Are the Vikings leverage for the Steelers or Giants? Do the Giants realize, given that they recently hosted Russell…

So now O’Connell has to make a tough call — Should he bring Rodgers to Minnesota? Now here’s where he is in a pickle.
See, Aaron likes to run an offense on whichever team he is in. But so does O’Connell who runs it in a very particular way. And then there’s J.J. McCarthy, who after missing his rookie season due to an injury, is looking to make his debut as the Vikings’ starter. If O’Connell and Co. sign Rodgers in 2025, then let’s just say it’s going to be a chaotic situation for their QB room.
Meanwhile, Aaron might be looking for a room in the Twin City given their good 14-3 run in the last season before dropping out early in the playoffs. The 4x league MVP has been a champion once and can be a great help to his team. And who better than the Vikings who are already holding the fort just fine?
However, as per ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler during an appearance on Sunday’s SportsCenter, “Teams are waiting this out, waiting on Rodgers. The feeling is there’s not just a money consideration here. There’s fit, there’s surroundings, all those things. Minnesota Vikings are sort of on the periphery here. Sources there tell me that it’s possible they get involved with Rodgers, but the feeling this week has been probably not. They want to develop J.J. McCarthy.” There’s also an air that if the Viks don’t bring Aaron in, he just might choose to retire after an exemplary career already.
Because, let’s be real for a moment—the waiting game is not going to profit anyone, especially the Giants. I mean, they’ve already lost Stafford, Rodgers seems like landing in Minnesota, and if it keeps going, the team might lose Russell Wilson as well.
Aaron Rodgers’ decision is troubling Russell Wilson
Russell Wilson must be side-eyeing this offseason right about now. The veteran QB is in the free agency for the first time in his career since he was drafted in 2012. The reason’s pretty simple– The Steelers seemed to have already moved on from Wilson. According to the NFL insider, Gerry Dulac, “The Steelers do not appear interested in re-signing Russell Wilson, but that could change pending the outcome of other potential deals.”

Speaking of the other potential deals, the talk of the town is that Wilson had visited Cleveland on Thursday and New York on Friday. But he didn’t get a deal. Let’s talk about the Giants first. The team is in a dire need of a QB, there’s no denying that. But their front office is stuck in limbo, just waiting on Rodgers to make a move.
Problem is, he’s in no rush—especially not until the Vikings figure out what they want to do with him first. That said, Wilson’s future is up in the air, considering the Steelers don’t want him anymore. That left Russell Wilson with the Cleveland Browns. But the big question is still looming: Will the Browns sign Wilson?
They can but the deal would come with a catch. See, according to the Giants’ insider Ruben Vargas, the team offered Wilson a one-year contract. However, Wilson’s looking for a two-year deal. Would the Browns be willing to give that to the 36-year-old QB? I guess not.

Let’s be real—before the starting of the 2024 regular season, Wilson suffered a calf injury. Following his recovery, the QB started 11 games, and threw for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 63.7% of his passes. It’s safe to say that Wilson is not the same player from his Seattle days.
But the thing is, both the parties are in need of each other’s service. On one hand, the Browns are looking for a QB1 and on the other, Wilson is eyeing to secure his NFL future for a couple of years. With that being said, Wilson’s NFL future is still uncertain. Let’s see if he accepts a one-year deal from the Browns or the team decides to agree with Wilson’s demand. Or if Rodgers finally makes a decision.
