Tom Brady appeared on DeepCut, got a great haircut, and casually dropped the fact that he’s ‘open to’ returning to the NFL if the league allows him to do so. However, Brady is planning to have stakes in the Las Vegas Raiders, and that ownership may stand in the way of him joining the league again as a quarterback.
Since this announcement, the media has its eyes set on any hint toward this possible return and there have been all sorts of hyperboles about the comeback. One such question popped up on WEEI 93.7 FM Weekend Shows when ESPN’s Seth Wickersham joined Ken & Curtis for a chat.
The NFL aches for Brady’s return, but there’s a catch!

The host asked Wickersham a couple of questions but one of them was interesting enough to catch the attention of any football enthusiast. “Any shot to the ‘Tom Brady coming back’ rumors?” While the idea of Brady’s return is exciting, the ESPN journalist chose to be pessimistic or rather realistic about it.
He revealed a far-fetched scenario where this could be possible. “Will Brady play again? I’m going to say no. Unless Brock Purdy gets hurt.” Why Wickersham brought the San Francisco 49ers into the context is a whole different ground of explanation. But in this scenario, Brady feels inspired by the NBA legend Michael Jordan, who retired 3 times from the basketball league as well.
“I’m always going to be in good shape. I’ll always be able to throw the ball, so to come in for a little bit like MJ coming back,” said the 7x Super Bowl champ on DeepCut. But coming back to the 49ers’ connection, Kyle Shanahan reached out to Brady when he announced his second retirement.
However, there’s more to this Kyle Shanahan, Brock Purdy, and Tom Brady saga than what meets the eye. An NBC piece from Peter King reveals what Shanahan had in mind in terms of managing Purdy and Brady.

Shanahan reportedly told Purdy that he was trying to sign Brady in the last off-season. The 49ers HC revealed that he “was serious about it.” “As we talked, I’m looking at Brock, and he’s got his arm in a sling, and I really am not sure I’ve got a quarterback who’s going to be ready for the start of the 2023 season. That started all of this,” said Shanahan.

But the HC reassured Purdy that his job was safe. “I actually thought it was giving Brock the biggest compliment,” Shanahan said. “I let him know he’s our guy long-term. No question. And if Tom Brady wanted to come here and start for one year, that’s the only way you’re not starting when you’re healthy this year.”
Tom Brady said no to the proposition and Purdy remained safe with his starting position. But it worked out because the QB has been showing results and crunching numbers ever since, displaying an exceptional performance.
