Picture this: Tyreek Hill, the human blur in cleats, zipping past defenders in Kansas City, hoisting Lombardi trophies with Patrick Mahomes. Fast forward to 2022—a blockbuster trade sends him to sunny Miami, where palm trees sway but playoff wins don’t follow… Two years of first-round exits, then a messy 2024 season where frustration boiled over. Hill’s electric speed couldn’t outrun the Dolphins’ struggles. Now, as his former team eyes a historic three-peat, Hill’s heart tugs between loyalty and longing. What’s next for the Cheetah?
On February 7, Hill dropped a six-word bombshell during NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk: “not playing in the Super Bowl”. It was Hill sharing his most irrational fear. “It’s tough for me to just go to the game and just be in this environment and not play in it.” His voice cracked as he admitted, “I ain’t gon’ lie, man, I come to the Super Bowl every year and it’s tough for me. I tell my wife I’m not going to the Super Bowl, it’s tough.” The Dolphins’ playoff absence gnawed at him.
Especially as the Chiefs gear up for another Super Bowl. “I love those guys to death, man, I got a lot of respect for ‘em,” Hill said about Kansas City, adding, “Each and every Sunday that we took the field [together], we knew that we were going to win games.” Translation: Miami’s mediocrity stings. When asked if he second-guessed leaving Kansas City, Hill didn’t dodge.

“Always. I mean, you always have thoughts like that,” he confessed. But he quickly pivoted to faith: “But at the same time though, the way I was raised, I’m always thinking what God has planned for me in the future.” Despite Miami’s 8-9 record, Hill praised coach Mike McDaniel’s culture and vowed that the playoff win is “coming.” Yet his words couldn’t mask the ache of watching Mahomes thrive without him…
Kansas City’s post-Hill era? Pure dominance. Three straight Super Bowl trips, two rings secured, and a shot at immortality. Meanwhile, Hill’s Miami numbers dipped—81 catches, 959 yards, career lows since 2019. Bleacher Report even floated a wild trade idea: Hill back to KC for linebacker Drue Tranquill and a 2026 pick. But Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, squashed rumors: “I think at the end of the day, he’s committed to this Dolphins football team. He had an excellent meeting with Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel. I believe that Tyreek is a great asset to the Dolphins.” For now, at least. But cue the plot twist.
Hill’s Miami U-turn
After a fiery Week 18 rant—“I’m out, bruh”—Hill backtracked hard. On Kay Adams’ Up & Adams Show, he apologized publicly: “Tua, he’s my guy – always will be, no matter what. I’m looking forward to just us continuing to build our relationship – and this is my public apology to you, Tua. I love you bro.” He doubled down: “I don’t wanna go nowhere. I love it, my family loves it. Kids absolutely love being on the beach every morning.” Why the change?
Hill credited McDaniel’s vision and Tua Tagovailoa’s grit, despite Tua’s injury-riddled season. “We are really building something special in Miami,” Hill insisted. But doubts linger. Hill pinpointed Kansas City’s secret sauce: “It’s just the relationship, man, between those guys—Pat and Andy.” He revealed, “I feel like they have a relationship outside of what most quarterbacks and coaches [have].” That chemistry fuels their dynasty. Meanwhile, Miami’s Tua-Hill duo lacks that spark—yet. Hill’s plea?
“Buy into what coach is building and the culture that he is trying to build.” But can patience outlast his prime? Rosenhaus disclosed Hill’s hidden battle: a broken wrist in camp. Doctors urged surgery; Hill played through pain. “He deserves a lot of credit,” Rosenhaus said. But grit couldn’t mask Miami’s regular season finish. Hill’s fire remains, but his body? “I gotta be mindful of the future I’m trying to build,” he admitted.

In the last three years, Kansas City boasts a 43-11 record; Miami? 28-23. Hill’s 4,370 yards as a Dolphin are stellar, but with zero playoff wins. Meanwhile, Mahomes thrives with new targets—rookie Xavier Worthy shines, while Travis Kelce ages like wine. Hill’s absence? A glaring what if for both parties.
As Super Bowl LIX looms, Hill is at a crossroads. Support his Chiefs buddies? Sure. But 2025 is about rewriting his Miami story. “We’re close,” Hill has insisted time and again. For the Dolphins, “close” isn’t enough. For Hill, it’s now or never. One thing’s certain: the Cheetah’s speed can’t outrun legacy. Whether in Miami’s glow or Kansas City’s shadow, Hill’s chase for glory races on.
