When Tyreek Hill got drafted in the 5th round (165th) in 2016, most called him an average player. But the Chiefs’ coaches were determined to get the best out of him. If that meant being aggressive with the player, so be it. Not all coaches were like that, but their offensive coordinator (formerly RB coach) Eric Bieniemy was certainly a proponent of being hard on the players. The move also paid off as Hill has grown to be ranked among the most-talented WRs in the league. The OC has been the same for long. Ever since he entered the NFL.

A Minnesota Vikings fan page recently shared a video of him working with the RB Adrian Peterson. For those of you who don’t know, Bieniemy was the Vikings RB coach from 2006 to 2009 before taking up the role of additional coach as well in 2010. In the video, the coach can be seen telling the player to focus over and over. While fans were taking sides on who was right, the WR stepped in with a hilarious observation that stole the show.

He shared the video on his X account and captioned it, “EB had hair 😂“. Fans burst into laughter. Bieniemy’s will to improve his players often paid dividends. Peterson, though angry in the video, went on to become an NFL great. He retired as one of the best running backs of all time. Now we know there’s hard work and a bit of teeth-grinding behind those achievements.

Even Tyreek Hill acknowledges this. He accepted in an interview that the former Chiefs OC made him a better man as well. It helped him realize he was special. Or at least to treat himself in such a way. Both have since left Kansas City. Hill helped the Chiefs win the first Super Bowl of their dynasty era in the 2019 season. He also followed it up with 1,200-yard receiving campaigns in the next two seasons. However, he was traded away in the 2022 offseason. Bieniemy was the RB coach for the Chiefs from 2013 to 2017 before being promoted to OC in 2018. He held that position until 2022, when he moved on to become the Assistant HC & OC at the Commanders.

While Hill has been playing for Dolphins since 2022, Bieniemy has just been appointed as the RB coach by the Bears. But the receiver created a drama by yelling after the season ender, “I am out.” Though the Phins have talked to him and the situation is under control, there is no surety that he’ll still be in Miami when Gameweek 1 rolls around.

Tyreek Hill predicted to move to the NFC East

Nothing is ever permanent in the league. The teams are always in discussions in the background, trying to take the maximum advantage of each situation. It is the same for the ace receiver. Meanwhile, analysts and legends are never shy of voicing their opinions on (potential) happenings in the league. Former 49ers QB Kurt Benkert and Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith both want the receiver to don the Cowboys colors in 2025.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Tyreek Hill the missing piece for the Cowboys to finally end their Super Bowl drought?

Have an interesting take?

Benkert claimed that Tyreek Hill should play for the Cowboys or Ravens. Smith emphasized, “Maybe we need to go after Tyreek Hill, someone that can go down the field and give CeeDee Lamb a chance to work underneath.” That’s some premium advice right there. We have seen how smooth the Bengals O-line gets with both Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins playing there. But there’s another thing.

Will the Super Bowl winner accept the WR2 role? After all, he is a Super Bowl winner. In the America’s Team, CeeDee Lamb is the undisputed number 1 receiver. Will he give that pole position to someone else? Not to forget, Hill also is a very emotional and expressive player. Sometimes, those emotions can get the better of the player. It was the same situation after the season ended. After 4 consecutive seasons with 1000+  receiving yards, he notched up only 959 yards in 17 games (all starters) in 2024. That was enough for him to publicly claim he wanted out (before calming down and making a public U-turn later).

Would such a player help the already-maligned (at least as per media reports) culture in the Cowboys locker room? Is his output, with the potential to finally break their three-decade drought, worth taking the risk?
