In a surprising turn of events, Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill has taken center stage, sharing a winning recipe with the Florida Panthers. The unexpected twist? It all revolves around a drum. Back in 2023, Raheem Mostert celebrated his new contract with Miami by energetically banging a drum during a Florida Panthers game. The video, posted by the King of Phinland, captured Mostert’s infectious enthusiasm.
But little did he know that his drumming would set off a chain reaction in the NFL. Fast forward to this year’s 25th of May NHL Conference finals game 2 between the New York Rangers and Panthers. We saw that same electrifying Mosterst with his drum raving and the fans wearing a Panthers jersey. But the Panthers lost the game to the Rangers which tied the series, bringing a chance of comment from Hill to surface.
Yesterday, the Florida Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers 3 to 0 in Game 1 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Final. Tyreek Hill, known for his explosive plays on the football field, took to social media to address the drumming incident. In a post on his account, Hill advised, “Sounds like the Panthers won, but I advise you don’t let Raheem touch, look, or breathe next to that drum.”

It seems Hill is offering the Panthers a bit of superstitious guidance after Mostert’s drum celebration can be viewed by some as a curse that derailed Florida’s Stanley Cup run last season where they lost 5 games against the Vegas Golden Knights. The speedy receiver appears wary of his teammate’s rhythmic rallying cries having a negative effect on the Panthers’ quest for the Stanley Cup in 2024. Meanwhile, the Dolphins HC also came out to make some bangs yesterday.

Sporting a white Florida Panthers jersey, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel made a surprise visit to Amerant Bank Arena on Saturday for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final. McDaniel kicked off the Panthers’ pregame festivities by banging the ceremonial drum and leading the crowd in chants of “Let’s go Panthers!” The 41-year-old put his hand to his ear, egging the fans on to chant louder, before hitting the drum again vigorously. It was an animated display from the second-year Dolphins coach as he tried to whip the Florida faithful into a frenzy before puck drop.

McDaniel’s drumming cameo last postseason preceded the Panthers beating the Carolina Hurricanes to advance to the 2023 Stanley Cup Final. This time, his percussive appearance seemed to provide a spark again as the Panthers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead en route to a 3-0 Game 1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.
While McDaniel’s cross-sport cheerleading drew some attention, the Dolphins’ trio of skilled position stars Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, and Raheem Mostert have been making noise of their own. But just how do Miami’s offensive triplets stack up against the rest of the NFL’s top quarterback, running back, and pass-catching groups?
In a recent ranking by Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame, the Dolphins’ Tua-Tyreek-Mostert trio came in at No. 11 overall, despite all three earning Pro Bowl honors as starters last season. Verderame argued that while “the Dolphins are the fastest team in football,” Tagovailoa “remains a long-term question” at quarterback.
The ranking seems a bit low for a group that featured a leading MVP candidate in Tagovailoa and the league’s top receiver in Hill. Miami was one of just two teams along with the 49ers to have all three skill-position Pro Bowlers be voted in as starters. With Hill’s rocket-fueled offensive production and Mostert’s explosive running ability complementing Tagovailoa’s precision passing, the Dolphins’ triplets have a strong case to be considered among the NFL’s elite offensive nuclei heading into 2024. Maybe McDaniel can make some bang with this triplet.
