The Kansas City Chiefs are strategic regarding how they spend their money. It is evident through their deals with their star players like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. In fact, even though Tyreek Hill helped them get a Super Bowl, in the situation of unmatched negotiating points, the team did not hesitate much in letting the WR go because of similar reasons. Reflecting on his time with the Chiefs, Hill remarked how his preference differed from that of the team and the eminent role Mahomes and Kelce play for the Chiefdom, showcasing loyalty.
The ex-Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill appeared on the MILLION DOLLAZ WORTH OF GAME podcast and talked about his colleagues, the Chiefs, and the Dolphins. In an excerpt, he revealed the ‘friendly deals’ of senior players like Kelce and Mahomes that keep the Kansas City side going.
The host of the show posed an interesting question to Tyreek Hill, reflecting, “What is it about KC that they are just not, it just seemed like they are not willing to pay over $20 million?” Hill mentioned how the team paid him $18 million and did not franchise tag him before he left for the Dolphins in 2022. The Dolphins WR mentioned how the Chiefs like to keep their “core guys” together.

From the way Hill went on to describe the details of the team and the importance of their QB and TE, it’s quite evident that Mahomes and Kelce are the “core guys” team motions around and the Chiefs will indefinitely look to keep them around with the strength they bring to the side. Hill mentioned how Mahomes signed a deal that also leaves room for other players to be happy with him not taking home all his amount at once.
The hosts speculated on Kelce’s salary and Hill thought it to be somewhere around the $14-15 million mark. He pointed out how the duo stays modest so everyone in the team can achieve benefits of their own deals. “Kelce like a 14-15,” said Hill. While he wasn’t sure on the estimation of the number, there undoubtedly seemed conviction in his reply while mentioning how Kelce and Mahomes remain at the top of the league.
“No no! Nobody’s Travis Kelce. Nobody’s Patrick Mahomes either. Those two are they are just different. They deserve to be the highest paid. But obviously, they gonna take friendly deals because you know keep the team together.” Mahomes is set to make about $208 million between 2023-26. As for Kelce, he will earn a base salary of $12 million and a workout bonus of $250k, while carrying a cap hit of $15,4 million and a dead cap value of $5,1 million. This salary is despite the duo winning 3 Super Bowls together.
