Tyreek Hill choosing fencing over track—genius move or a waste of his speed?

The 2024 Paris Olympics have kicked off, and the excitement is buzzing everywhere. And just like everyone else, NFL stars were waiting for the start. The Miami stars were found to reveal their best Olympic game, imagining themselves on the grandest stage. From swimming to sprinting, each of the Dolphins’ stars mentioned their best game in the Olympics. Track and field was the best choice for Jaylen Ramsey, De’Von Achane, and Ethan Bonner. But the biggest surprise came from Tyreek Hill

I ain’t doing nothing of that, I’m doing fencing.“, said Tyreek Hill. So, what’s the issue about him choosing to fence? Well, the Dolphins’ WR is known for his blazing speed on the gridiron, which makes him a predator on the track and field. In addition, Hill was found to reach a top speed of 23.24 mph as the Dolphins’ WR, which further proves his dominance as a runner. But it’s not only the rush records as a WR that justifies his sprinting ability.

Tyreek was a pro runner at Oklahoma State University, too. As evidenced by his personal bests of dashing through 200 meters in 20.14 seconds, so he was expected to choose track and field as his dream Olympic game. In addition, Hill’s 6.7 in 60M at the USATF Masters justifies his experience in track and field. But that’s not all.

Miami’s ‘Cheetah’ also has the titles of Big 12 Indoor Freshman of the Year and All-American honors in the Indoor 200-meter dash. Being a natural sprinter, why did he ‘reject’ track and field?

Well, it might not be as surprising for some. Track and field was a common choice for his teammates too, and seems like Hill wanted to try something new. Furthermore, fencing was not the only Olympic game that Tyreek talked of.
