Tua Tagovailoa the 'original' QB? Has Tyreek Hill lost his mind or is he speaking truth?

Top 5 quarterbacks in the league….Patrick….Tyreek Hill named the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback as the No. 1 QB in the NFL when a fan asked him to name the top 5 on his Q&A round on Instagram. But it seems, his choice for the No. 1 position for the quarterback keeps changing and changing.

In a recent Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams on August 12, 2024, Tyreek Hill joined the host to talk about multiple topics of the league, including Patrick Mahomes vs Tua Tagovailoa! This time, the NFL players ranked Patrick Mahomes at No. 4. On the other hand, Hill surprisingly, became the first WR to clinch the top spot overthrowing the Chiefs’ QB from his last year’s berth. Probably how the debate has been unfolding, Hill too joined to further disdain the QB’s prowess in comparison with the Miami Dolphins quarterback.

However, his reactions were mixed, as the wide receiver said,A lot of people like they may give me a hard time and say, ‘oh Patrick is one of a kind.’ Yes, he is. Patrick Mahomes is one of a kind. He’s one of those guys that can roll to the left and throw back to his right, cross his body and do all that special stuff. He’s one of a kind, you’re right. But I’m saying as far as a quarterback aspect wise or like what you think about like a prototypical quarterback, Tua is that guy.

The interesting thing is just before naming Tagovailoa as No. 1, Hill mentioned, “I played with the best quarterback which is Patrick Mahomes. Like and I’m saying like he’s up there caliber wise, I feel like anyways he has that.” So, his changing stance might be confusing and messy for many, but the reality could be that Hill loves both quarterbacks – one was his first friend in the Chiefs, while the other has also become a close companion on his current team.

The thing to focus on here is that Hill isn’t the first one to have come forth and compared Mahomes with his QB. Earlier, Ja’Marr Chase too took a shot on Mahomes. He made a salty remark, saying, “I give credit when it’s due, but I’m not saying his [Patrick Mahomes] name. I’m not saying his name, brother. I’m sorry. Joe Burrow. I’m not saying that guy’s name. He’s good, he’s amazing. He’s good. I’m not gonna lie. I’m salty though. I’m a little salty. Two years in a row. I’m putting Burrow first” over Mahomes.

If these haven’t been enough disrespect toward the Chiefs QB, including the NFL Players ranking, what one of the Raiders’ fans did was totally uncalled for. He “brought a Kermit the Frog puppet that was wearing a Patrick Mahomes’ jersey and a wig to mock the quarterback’s hair.” However, these antics do not take away a slight edge Mahomes has in rushing attempts (75) and yards (389), especially compared to Tagovailoa’s 35 attempts and 74 yards.

But in passing stats, the Miami QB leads with 4,624 yards and 29 touchdowns over Mahomes’ 4,183 yards and 27 touchdowns. All in all, both quarterbacks are good and competitive with each other, but the Chiefs quarterback’s three Super Bowl appearances give him a slight edge as the current top, arguably. Interestingly, giving out his perception wasn’t all that Tyreek Hill did, as he later compared himself to Mahomes, saying he is better than the 28-year-old QB.

Tyreek Hill has always been vocal about his belief in Patrick Mahomes being the best quarterback in the NFL. Even after parting ways with the Chiefs, Hill’s respect for Mahomes hasn’t faded away. This year in March, Hill shared a story that made him respect the quarterback more as it reflects Mahomes’ fierce leadership.

It was like during a tough season when the Chiefs were struggling, Mahomes didn’t hold back. He called out the entire offense, including Hill, in a way that left a lasting impression. Hill said that Mahomes looked in his eyes and challenged him, saying, “Tyreek, you think you’re so f–ing fast, but you can’t catch the f–ing ball. You want to be the best receiver in the game.” It was a moment that lit a fire under Hill, pushing him and the team to step up their game.

Well, while this might give an idea that Hill needed a push to discover his zest, the WR is actually quite aware of his skills. He called himself better than Mahomes, explaining the reason:They won two, back to back Super Bowls, they did their thing, right? You look at me, two back to back 1700 (yards), Pro Bowl, All-Pro, this, that, consistency, all that man, you feel me?

Additionally, Hill, who stands at 5’8-5’9, named himself a beacon of hope for all the “short kings” out there. With this, he meant that size doesn’t define greatness in the league. Nevertheless, while Mahomes has continued to shine with the Chiefs, winning two more Super Bowls, Hill has been carving out his path in Miami. Now, he’s focused on helping the Dolphins break their playoff drought and bring a victory to Miami for the first time in over 20 years.
